Desire
Lauren Groom Mar 2011
When will I see you again?
Feel your heartbeat?
Desire is an ache
A lonely, endless path,
that is paved through deep dreams at night
and gazing into the sky each day.
It is painfully concealed,
and many people never reach the end.

Long Distance
Lauren Groom Mar 2011
The desperate need to have you here
To feel your body on mine
The heat, the firmness
My arms ache to hold you,
My fingers to wrap in your hair.
Sometimes my limbs hurt more than my heart.
Lauren Groom Mar 2011
Sometimes I smile at you

even though

you are thousands of miles away.

March 15
Lauren Groom Mar 2011
I went to the ocean today and I think you were there.
I felt you in the sand, in the wind blowing in my hair,
in the cry of seagulls searching for home.

When the Ides of March hit the earth in full force,
Does Caesar still dream of Cleopatra?
Still desire her, crave her, over the centuries?

Love lingers on lonely rocks and in decrepit ruins,
It hides in the pages of a book and on once-caressed armor standing in a museum,
and floats through the ages, a silent and lost lament.

Looking to the Southeast
Lauren Groom Mar 2011
I was with you last night.
Do you remember?
I flew to you
as you stood waiting,
turned towards the horizon,
with my gaze in your eyes.

The ocean parted for us
and we walked in together
under arches of coral
and mazes of rock.

What are you looking for?
It’s not hidden in a bed of seawood.
It’s ahead of us, tu sais,
we haven’t found it yet.
So don’t give up.

The desires of thousands of miles are floating out of reach.

*Love me here again.

Another Era
Lauren Groom Mar 2011
You belong somewhere else.
Another era,
another age of the earth when
humans weren’t afraid to walk naked
when we survived on our instinct, our strength, and our stories.
Those were the real truths.
Now you grow next to a concrete parking garage
instead of jade green jungle
and these concrete walls are our comfort.
What happened to feeling the sun on our skin each hour,
the rain on our bodies,
watching the stars wheel at night?
Do you no longer care for things except that which is right in front of you?
Memories are being pulled closer to the earth, away from us,
buried under layers of asphalt and the weight of tires.
Do you ever take notice of birds chirping?
Of what phase the moon is in?
Sometimes I wish I could slip away silently, effortlessly
back in time.

My Search
Lauren Groom Mar 2011
Where in this world are you?
Are you standing over a chipped blue sink, brushing your teeth?
Are you carrying flowers home on your bicycle?
Are you sitting in sunlight pretending to read a book?
Or maybe you’re deeply asleep, forgetting about existence for a time,
Or sitting in a café seeing beautiful words swirl and drown in your café au lait.
Are you wondering where I am too?
I’m here, don’t you sense me yet?
Stuck in this city of concrete and palms,
Dreaming of a smile I’ve never seen.
Where are you?
