Man in Black
Laura Piker Jun 2016
On a day as pretty as a lilac,
I saw a man dressed all in black.
And the clothes seemed to be whispering
Like many souls in suffering.
And then, just like that, the sky turned dark
And I felt a little faint of heart.
And I smelled a very odd smell
Which I realized was the stench of death.

Battlefield 1
Laura Piker Jun 2016
It was a battlefield.
The crossfire of who's wrong,
Who's right?
We fight and fight and eventually
I don't even remember how it started
I just know I want it to end.

Caught in the crossfire.
Too many casualties to count,
One, two, five hundred.
Bleeding from the knife in my back,
I placed my faith
In the wrong person.

White flags of surrender.
We both raise them,
Up to the sky.
Giving up each other,
But not our pride.
Our heads held down, we both retreat.

Now I build walls.
Protection from the outside,
If I can't see them they can't see me.
After all,
You taught me,
It's better to be lonely than vulnerable.

Friendly faces
But none welcome me in.
Warm embraces
But cold hearts bleed through.

Vines of betrayal
Threaten to suffocate me
I thought that we were friends.
No acknowledgement,
Not even a smile.
