The inside of my nose burned
With each breath, I became more.
I smiled
I could conquer the world
My heart would race, but then it would stop
Start, stop, then once more beat as it should
And through all that time, there was no problem to be found.
My nose became a portal
My mouth a door to the hallway of my throat.
Their original purposes forgotten,
They were strictly passages for excitement
Euphoria
Happiness
Acceptance
Love.
Today, my nose is for breath.
My mouth, nourishment.
Today is a day without the self-induced pain
That for so long plagued me.
Today is a day in which I do not die,
For every day before was a step closer to my grave.
Today, I do not exist.
Today, I live.
