When you wrote “my book of friends”
I read of those who became
Friends
for a reason, a season or a lifetime,
The ones you loved and made you laugh
The ones you loved but made you cry
The lovers who came and stayed
or just came and went
who touched your mind or body
And then just passed carelessly by
Without knowing the impact they made
The few who made you dream of what just might have been
The ones who made you frown
or worse
To think
and see the self you don’t allow others to see
in vain I searched for my name until at last i saw
but i was hoping for so much more
than a footnote
                         at the bottom
                                                   of page 44

Someone said your name last night
And unbidden the memories returned
Flooding me with memories of
Your touch ..............intense
I smiled and licked my lips
Tasting you again
Remembering how I cried at your leaving
Without looking back
“Don’t go...please don’t go”
But you did
And I smiled when they said your name
And I whispered   “I still love you”
But no one saw.... no one knew
What your name still means to me

There's a room in my brain
That’s furnished with memories of you
And when
I need to feel your love
For I am unsure
And when
I need to feel your strength
                                                                      For I am weak
And when
I need to feel the colours
To lighten the dark
And when
I need to feel the peace
In the chaos of my life

And when
I just need to feel you
                                       I know

Theres a room in my brain
That’s furnished with memories of you

I’ll lend you my smile,
if you’re feeling sad
I’ll lend you my strength
if you’re weak
I’ll be there at your side if you stumble and fall
I’ll give you my hand in your pain

Use them to get through this difficult time
But keep them safe,
because soon
I may need them back,
and much more beside
And that’s when I’ll lean upon you

Together we’ll struggle through life’s weary toil
Together our voice will be heard
Together we’ll face what the world throws at us
Together!,
what a beautiful word
