Swallowed by these empty promises
Choking on the bitter words
Sinking in the looming silence
Frozen by these empty hearts
Choking on distant memories
Sinking in the desolate haze
Staring through these empty eyes
Choking on the unseen tears
Sinking in the quicksand void
Walking through these empty rooms
Choking on the dusty air
Sinking in the heavy gloom
Alone, and empty

You can find me in the quiet places
Where the grass shifts in whispers
And the lilacs lazily bloom
Embrace me
Seek out my secrets
Hidden memories and intimate moments
Hold soft, and turn them in your hands
Lying on the ground, speaking slowly
As though the day were endless

The candlelight burns low
I sit still by its side, thinking of you
Scattered memories a solace
For quaking doubts
I whisper for you
The faintest of sounds
Borne on dainty wings
All about me

Tomorrow, you won't remember
Nor perhaps next week
And I may not think of you, too
But sometimes I'll sit
If only to keep the candlelight company
Until the flame finally fades

Worn out recordings
Of drawn faces
Monochrome places
Like letters to no one
Abandoned, forgotten, and faded away
These dreams, our visions
Shelters from the hectic storms of our lives
In a trick of the eye our firefly light
Pulls us in to its kaleidoscope display
Like wide-eyed children
Finally finding the familiar footing of our fantasies
Of our pulsing, beating hearts
This organic mechanic hum
Drawing us toward a silent rhythm
An invisible siren light
Some spend their whole lives through
Scrambling through these shifting shadows
Reaching out for St. Elmo's Fire

Watching a world of blues and greens
From a gilded cage full of pretty things
Sits a little bird with clipped wings
Singing pure and sweet to all who listen

From morning light to the dusky pall
The little bird perches, enthralled
New stories to tell, a new song to sing
Pouring happiness out to the skies

Perching alone in a world of grey
Singing along for every new day
Until the stars speckle the sky
And the little bird dreams
Of flying

I could stitch the sky shades of beautiful
Hang sadness upon the horizon
Patch multi-hued joy all above
And place a bright light of hope on high
Like embroidery for the soul

The fire crackles
Flames licking toward freedom
Fading out as soon as they reach too far, too selfishly
I blink
She stands, lonely and alone
Hair tumbling wildly down her back
He opens the door and looks for a moment
In this silent eternity she doesn't notice
I blink
I walk to her
Touching her cheek fondly
Lifting her chin, she looks in my eyes
Sadness, pain, and tears
Smeared across her face
Brushing the hair behind her eyes
I press my lips to hers
I blink
I slip my arms around her
Settling my hands in the small of her back
I whisper softly into her ear
And hold her tight
I blink
He dips her back and kisses her
Lifts her up, carries her to the candlelit room
And lays her down on the bed
He lays behind her
Holding her in his arms
She holds his hands in hers
And smiles
I blink
Passions play in the flickering flames
A thousand untold stories hidden
The fire crackles
I blink
