A Love Poem
Kam Rayefski Nov 2012
My eyes were always open, but never awake
Music I always write, but songs I could never make
I have never wanted much, never asked for love
I simply wanted assurance, a plea to up above

I spent a long while, lost and erratic
I was never with true love, just always dramatic
Living life with an empty feeling, never truly whole
And I always scramble for reason, but I couldn't gain control

Fighting my untamed feelings, mind against thought
I’d always try to do the right, but always be the not
Until one day when all hope was lost
Came unexpectedly, my luck suddenly crossed

Her smile quite soothing, her thoughts like mine
Her romance overwhelming, she is simply divine
She returned to me my poorest of gifts
She gave back my confidence, my deepest of rifts

Her beauty was like the snow, so delicate and pure
This woman with great power, poisoned me with no cure
This disease called love, killed me and had me born again
She stole me from insanity, but kindly bestowed me sane

She lifted me off my feet with a simple kiss
The ground I never knew, and I could never miss
To her I could return the same, I could always be complete
This woman I will marry, an event I would repeat

Together the world never could matter, but matter all the more
With love as strong as ours, no sadness anymore
Goodnight, Goodbye, Farewell to all
I was once lost, but now that I cannot recall

Eyes like yours I could never forget
Love like ours I can never regret
For you I will wait the end of the sun
We shall live until I am dust and done

Don't Forget
Kam Rayefski Jun 2012
With her smile she made me complete
Her happy tales and dramatic song were so sweet
She’d skip, trip and run away
But wherever she was, she was by my side, night and day

Her voice would sound like falling rain
A sound that meant death, or life, it would always remain the same
Softly it could fall, dangerous it could be
Violently it could sound, beautiful like the sea

You don’t mess with this girl, she’ll bring you down
But she’ll do it behind a smile never a frown
She uses no germs, poison or steel
Only what you have inside, what you can but can’t feel

Like all who have, I was wrong to cross this horrific joy
I was betrayed by her, stolen, used, like a child’s toy
What I never realized, was that I was betrayed by myself
She is who I was, am I an individual, one’s self?

Where am I now, I’m dazed and confused
I took a rough ride, it left me alone and bemused
Living in a world where part of you is gone
Makes you loose joy, love and song

You long for her sight, to rejoin the cause
But you must fight in the ring, to jeers and applause
No war is made with efficient haste
It’s made with time, pleasure and distaste

So I apologized, so gradually and well
I felt assured, my doubt groveled and fell
My confidence was balanced, and my soul lifted
I was rushed upwards, blessed and spiritually gifted

But like the sea she mercilessly took my hopes
She hung me back with heavy ropes
She broke my ribs and cut my hair
She put mud in my face and tied me to a chair

Nothing seemed to work but she changed her mind
My apology accepted, I was left behind
Pondering my decisions, wondering in my wake
Reflecting my choices, and the ones I would make

I crawled back to her, to make things as they were
They’d get better, you’ll see, for sure
But like a post-war madness, all was not as it was
I tried to find a reason, she said “just because”

So she danced without me, a battle won but lost
Left cold like the morning fall frost
Her muffled voice, sounding dull and distant
I’d remember that voice, throughout my life, during every instant.

I need space
I take no haste
I love to enjoy
The beauty of this place
The stream I drink
The marsh I munch,
A lovely place I think,
to ponder all my thoughts in this land
By the sunset reflecting lake I stand
I grunt, I thump, I itch upon a stump
I live my life content, without any threat
I wonder freely, void of any ensnaring net
Except for you, shaping my home into a dump
Respect my space, its ours to share
There's nothing better than fresh northern air
So, if you care, help us keep the land
and let life live.

GTA Glow
Kam Rayefski Jun 2012
A circuit land,
Overshadowed by late, orange, blooms.
Tough powers tower high,
Mirroring fear to passersby.

Forest rich with opportunity,
Potential plots for growth,
Short showers bear us fruits,
Of evermore enriching schemes.

Spikes of hopes, dreams and wonders,
Base levels of lost sympathies,
Crying wounds of hungry symphonies,
Howls of jeer, malice, and thunder.

A shattered system holds us together,
A web void of its structure, and spider,
Leadership is not without its tethers,
Binding back what was once deep.

Inside those who  not heed,
Of the instincts that lead to their greed
We need you dreamers, to help us gaze
And see the stars again, through that lamp lit haze.

Vitality
Kam Rayefski Jun 2012
Live life to live
shape the world and cultivate
away fears of shadows and hate.
Grower's thumbs often build
greener tomorrows, tokes to give
to brothers and sisters of today
always searching for more questions.

What clarity can bring to one
not you, but for someone
who holds the rotten cape
held together by rough black tape
to the bewildered open fields
of opiates and grapes
waiting just enough time
to bend around the vine
that holds together what they are feeling.

Let the world keep spinning
wobble from time to time
stumble off our feet
no chance to meet or greet
the war is on our street
bringing lust greed and pride
for all of us to abide
but all things can be forgiven.

Feel the sunny heat
of the smiles of those you just beat
for all the people are here
lovers, plumbers, drummers,
and this goes on, we run again
on and on we run again
on and on again
we go on.

Orange Clouds
Kam Rayefski Jun 2012
Forgotten leaves of golden brown
distant trees of wind and mist
not harming anyone, but playing
the old game of run and hide.

Across the measurable blue plain
flew them orange clouds
anvil held high, the colour of fire
awaiting the hammer to fall.

They came closer, darker behind
Father coaxed, be a man 'n never mind
the fear before me, which would pass overhead
I felt in moments, I'd soon be dead.

That small space, where torrents fell
trying to drown my memory
strike and roar, from dusk until dawn
the voice of nature, bellows Her song.

For all to hear, and all to fear
what might be played next
to those listening, all around
Her voice reigns over sea, sky and ground.

5 AM Man.
Kam Rayefski May 2012
A pen and a man's guitar
never got a man so far.
Someone's gotta make the world run
and burn some dreams away
that 5am man.

Just like how it starts to rain
the running water circles the drain
and you stop and take a look
he's a lot like you.

Early to rise
he sees the skies
that pale morning blue
who knew the birds could sing
about the day ahead, and what it could bring
that 5am man.

He lies awake for his own sake
and hopes for what could come tomorrow
the work we find,
it shapes our mind
and fills our pockets with what we still need to borrow.

That 5am man
he sees the needs
tries to find
that 4pm girl
who'll give him the time
that 5am man.
