in life, we are trees-alone,
doing nothing but sitting and standing
as if trapped in wilderness.
everything surrounding us is nothing,
words aren’t as important as ‘sorry,’
and minutes tick by like the beat of a song.

love will bring us together like lyrics to a song
and will rip us apart, leaving us alone,
nothing has been as important as you saying ‘sorry,’
i have nowhere to go, why leave me standing?
i guess all we have been through means nothing
like a bird’s nest, empty in the wilderness.

the shines brighter in the wilderness,
and birds chirp in sequence, a simple song.
trying to find your way as if it’s nothing
will only make you feel more alone;
like your feet are in quicksand, you keep standing-
never thinking he would ever tell you he was this sorry.

if a blade of grass was ‘sorry’
there would be no beauty in our wilderness.
here we remain standing
listening to the wind whistle a single song-
everything has disappeared: we are alone,
and yet “we” makes me feel like nothing. we are surrounded by nothing
but the empty echoes of “sorry.”
a shelter pet does not feel this alone
you would not dare leave it in this wilderness;
my cries and its whimpers are the same song,
and it moves because it cannot remain standing.

love may leave us standing
or feeling as if we are nothing-
sweet as a melody, a well-played song,
sad as the words ‘almost’ and ‘sorry’
goodbyes are the wilderness
they bring you together and leave you alone.

there was a tree alone,
standing in the wilderness, surrounded
by nothing but a sorry song.
