Hardly noticeable
Until the guide points it out
The small grayish head
Appears to float above the ground
Framed by thick roots
A brown wooden fence
Protects it from souvenir hunters
Garlands of yellow flowers
Laid by reverent locals
Adorn the fence
A miracle they say
The head appeared one day
Having forced its way
Through the roots
Its faded eyes gaze
Upon the ruins of ancient temples
Destroyed by marauding foreign invaders
As they swept across the country
In their ruthless quest for *******
Now it watches as tourists
Trample upon the stones
Searching for a better shot
With their designer cameras
No respect for the holy sites
Showing little concern for the past
Humans, for all their ingenuity
Are completely lacking in sensitivity
