to wake up and go back to sleep

to see the chaos and pain
in a world that fails to understand
that we are all together
that there is no pride

power does not persist
that hatred is fictitious and
the self does not exist
but yesterday
it was a different kind

of overwhelming when he caught me in his arms
and it all came rushing back
the voices i had made quiet
sang and
danced to a melody
that i had once believed
that life is heaven
and heaven is love
that words are poetry
and kisses are
blessings and it all came rushing to me
and it was overwhelming

but that's what i get
for believing that i could
forget my tune
when he was singing it all along
waiting for me
to realize that i had been blind
when i thought
i had seen it all
