I can't
Joseph McClain Feb 2014
I can't keep pretending that everything is okay,

I can't stop thinking of how we met
It's never something I remember,

I can't stop what my heart does when I think of you
When I talk to you
When I see you,

I can't ever seem to find the right words to tell you
It's so hard being silent
Acting like I don't care,

I can't keep this mask on forever
I'm trying to move on
I'm trying to get better
I'm trying so hard,

But I can't
It doesn't work
Nothing will
I'm just lost,

But I love you.

Even if...
Joseph McClain Jan 2014
Even if I lived to be one hundred
Even if I marry
Even if I have children of my own
Even if I lose my memory and have to start my life over
Even if I travel the world a thousand times over
Even if I lose my mind
Even if I die,

I could never
I would never
I will never
Forget you.

You know..
Joseph McClain Jan 2014
I stopped writing poetry because of you
I only started because you enjoyed it
At the time I enjoyed it too,

But now it makes me feel like I'm reliving heartbreak,

We don't talk much anymore
You have someone new
Someone most likely better than I,

As for me
I'm still alone
I'm still begging you to change your mind
I'm still hoping that you'll have me back
But I'll never let you know that.
Joseph McClain Jan 2014
Sometimes I'm at a loss,
For words,
For breath

Absent in mind and body,
Here in spirit,
But not in soul

Being lost and alone,
Trapped yet free,
Seems worse than death

Will you be there for me?
Will you love me?
Will you save me?

Black & White
Joseph McClain Jan 2014
When you look at the world in black and white,
There is no dark,
There is no light

Only what is important,
And what is not

And then there's you.

Heaven's Kiss
Joseph McClain Jan 2014
Though I've never met Her in life,
She means more to me than mine

A mind so sweet and kind,
Better than any drug I could find

With a voice like an angel crying,
Without it I would be dying

A smile so beautiful and bright,
It lights up my world and my night

Without Her I would be nothing but a shell,
Empty nothingness living in hell

But with Her,
I live in sweet bliss

Now unto forever,
She is heaven's kiss.

For Her
Joseph McClain Jan 2014
To describe you in words would take a thousand lifetimes
All the air I will ever breathe will never be enough,
for describing you is near impossible
Your smile,
Your laugh,
The twinkle in your eyes
Points all to shaming the stars in the sky,
Shaming the lords of music,
Shaming the artists of old
Nothing shall compare to the beauty that you hold
As deep as the oceans are, your eyes are deeper still
Pulling me in,
Not against my will
I go without thought,
Into the beauty that is yours
Without second thought, I am swallowed by warmth
As my heart is beating, leaping from my chest
I bend down on both knees without protest
For I know in my soul that I'm already yours
Forever,
Until the day death runs its course.
I wrote this pretty recently, with pen and paper, now here it will stay forever.
