Breakfast in Bed
John Carr Jan 2012
The bacon is all burnt, and the eggs are a mess.
I'll butter the toast and just throw out the rest.
I turned simple breakfast into quite an ordeal.
I ***** up a lot but you love me still.

You Save Me Every Day
John Carr Jan 2012
In a world where all is wrong, you're my only right.
In a world where words can ****, yours have saved my life.

This world will try to crush us, but you will give me wings.
You made a perfect love out of all these broken things.

I'll give you all my heart and cast your tears away.
Replace them with this smile and stay with me every day.

A New Wedding
John Carr Feb 2012
I will marry you in a hot
air balloon. The clouds will be our witnesses
as they block out everything below,
for what could we need
from down there?

Birds will sing their songs
to close the ceremony.
At the end, I beg
You to kiss me loudly
and hold my hand as we
slowly drift back down
to earth.

But we'll never really leave the sky.

A Day With You
John Carr Feb 2012
Let's sit together and watch the blushing sunset
As it caresses the earth with the back its hand one last time
Before the night falls.
I'll clutch you close to me and whisper words that
Take us far away, a place that no one else knows.
Your smile alights upon your face, and changes my world again.
It never fails.

As we climb the stairs, we'll talk about things that
Only make sense to us.
We'll shed these clothes and climb, bare-skinned, under the sheets,
Where we'll dance together before
We say goodnight to our dreams and
Cuddle as close as we can.

I can't wait to see your face in the morning.

Glimpse of Heaven
John Carr Jan 2012
You say I've never seen an angel? Well I say that I've seen you.
I cannot say enough about the girl who made me new.
My heart was hung up, strangled, hardly breathing, turning blue
Until you came into my life and understood me, through and through.

You're my saving grace and I owe you my whole life.
I came from freezing winter rain into your arms, warm and dry.
I know that I'm not perfect, but I sure as hell will try,
And I'll stay with you forever; I'll be yours and you'll be mine.

Utter Happiness
John Carr Feb 2012
I don't know
what dreams are made of,
but I know you've taken those pieces
from behind my motionless
eyelids, and you built
a new kind of love
with me.

My sleeping eyes
squinted, as though to smile
and, at the same time, be blinded
by your matchless
beauty.

My tears tell stories,
but these are new stories.
You mended my broken smile.

I never knew you could cry out of

Utter happiness.

Will you battle my intentions,
Will you fight against the flood?
Will you let your misdirection
Drag your name into the mud?
This ever-growing tension
Promotes your apathetic shrug
As your cold, rebel dissension
Tries to keep your conscience drugged.

Will you keep yourself afloat
By someone's faintly pious deeds?
Will you raise your head and boast
Or try to hide among the trees?
What you know we hate the most
Is what you seem to think you need
While you waste away our hope
That you'll escape your selfish greed.

Let Go and Fall in Love
John Carr Jan 2012
We fill our lives with hopes and dreams
To hide our faint and strangled screams.
Afraid to fall, so don't let go.
You'll never know what waits below.

"Is it worth the risk?" asks the wary.
"If I should stumble, will I be carried?"
And all our lives we ask these questions,
Afraid of such a blunt suggestion:

To fall in love invokes a risk
Inherent in the lovers' kiss.
You say that love precedes the tears
And you can't quell your petty fears.

Your heart is torn to ragged pieces
And your fear of love slowly increases.
Afraid you'll only be let down
You give up on love, lay down your crown.

But don't stop now, for when she's here
Forget your pain and dry your tears.
If you give your heart to none
You'll lose your chance to find The One.

Hand in Hand
John Carr Feb 2012
Scared. Too
Scared of what
                                                                          You
Would do if I just grabbed your hand.
Never did I think that you would
                                                                          Let
Such a thing happen. I could only
Hope to feel the creases in your palm, the
Soft, warm grasp of my
Heart, held in yours.
I was frozen in my seat by
Fear of what you'd do to
                                                                           Me
If I just tried to
Hold you.

But you were scared too.
We got on the roller coast and the
Sudden rush made you
                                                                          Hold
Your breath. You needed security.
You couldn't let
                                                                         Your
Life flash before your eyes as you rode
This death machine
They call a roller coaster!
When you were afraid, you found
What you needed.
I was afraid, so I wouldn't.
You were afraid, so you would:
You closed your eyes and grabbed my
                                                                         Hand.
This actually happened.
It needs some editing, so I guess this should only be considered a draft.

You Set My Heart Free
John Carr Jan 2012
I put my heart in a bottle and I locked it up tight.
I swore it would stay there for all my life.
I'd had too many nights when I felt all alone.
Too many houses I couldn't call home.

So many faces, but how many are real?
How many hearts truly know how to feel?

My hopes sank in doubt as I drowned in the sea.
There was no such thing as "perfect for me."
But hidden away right in front of my face
There was you: the dream who so long I had chased.

So I picked up the bottle and shattered the glass,
For you were the girl who I couldn't bypass.
I offered my heart, and also my life.
Just stay here and swear that you won't leave my side.

My heart is fragile, so handle with care.
You can see every scratch, every bruise, every tear.
But as long as you're mine, I forget all the pain,
So I give you my heart. Oh, and here's my last name.

11:11
John Carr Jan 2012
The clock screamed 11:11 and I knew just what to wish.
I wished for endless love, happy days and you to spend them with.

I wished for flowered fields where we could lay and never leave to soon.
The sun could set. I'd reach the sky and catch for you the moon.
A chain of stars is what we'll need; the moon's a mighty gem.
I'll hang this necklace 'round your neck and spare you no expense.

I wished for beaches filled with love that we'll forever share.
The ocean waves will wash us clean of all our past despair.

With smiling eyes and happy hearts we'll climb a mountain top.
I'd spend all my days with only you and love that never stops.

Then I thought a funny thing. This was no wish I'd made.
All these things I already have, and I know they're here to stay.

With you, my love, I need no wish. You already give it all.
I'm yours forever and ever more, and you're mine just as long.
John Carr Jan 2012
We stumble blindly through this life,
Caring not of wrong or right.
I only care that I am yours;
The rest is just unwritten verse
That we will write with frantic pens
That know no wrong and know no ends.

So hand in hand, we live and learn.
We live in love and brightly burn,
And when the sun does rise this day,
We'll wake up knowing that our way
Of love will surely conquer all,
So smile and bow; my heart applauds.
John Carr Jan 2012
All my life I have been told,
                                                  "That is not enough."
I know this life is hard, but I have to call their bluff.
I gave all I can give, yet they refuse to give their trust.
All my efforts in the dirt, beneath your heels were
                                                  crushed.

Now you come and say to me you only want
                                                  my love.
You taught me how to smile, but now all you want is love.
I'll give you all the world, all the clouds and stars above.
But you'll say to me,
*"My dear, just your love is quite enough."

— The End —
