Jocelyn Him May 2014
I count the steps I take.
1,2,3,4,5
Look to my right; I see people smiling, and laughing.
Crows feet curving at the corner of their faces.
This joke must be extremely funny.
I smile, and I laugh inside.
My steps grow with speed.
10,11,12,13,14
Look to my left, I see eyes looking at me glazed over, as though I'm here, but not really.
Fingers pointed at me, but I keep going.
I keep counting...
50,51,52,53,54
Where am I going?
I notice the yellow dried grass and the fingerprints on the glass.
100,101,102,103,104...
I see children with amazement on their faces.
Then I stop counting...
I go to the glass and put my hands up to the cold, smooth surface.
I Realize that I've been running in circles and there's nowhere to go in here.
So much time has passed and I've been trapped in here, alone.
How do I get out?
I can't keep running.
