New Love
Joanne Smith Jul 2016
You've enveloped my heart
and cocooned my soul
You've woken emotions
I find hard to control
You've unlocked a treasure
more valued than gold
You've opened a book
of words left untold
You've captured a gaze
not many have seen
You've ignited a fire
where ice has been
The hope I feel as our journey begins
Will quell any fear or doubt from within

God in his glory
Gave us this morn
Placed dew on the grass
And proclaimed it his dawn

God in his beauty
Brought flowers and trees
Painted their petals
And rust set the leaves

God in his goodness
Taught us to care
For man, bird and beast
And his treasures to share

Through the innocent eyes
Of each child from above
God in his knowing
Gave us his love

Gather me up and lay me down
Quell this trembling
Fear in my eyes
To pierce and burn
Poison myself with pain

Shake me like dust, let me float
This coil unfurl
Tension of limbs
Angry and taught
Die, but to rise again

Sunrise to Sunset
Joanne Smith Jul 2016
I sit and watch the sunrise
Over a gnarled begotten place
Drained of life and substance
Lingering on the edge of space

You sit and watch the sunset
'Cross a friendly vibrant place
Where life moves ever onward
And time just gathers pace

We'll sit and watch the sun rise
In a place we know not yet
Life and time will seem eternal
As we sit and watch sun set

New Morn
Joanne Smith Jul 2016
Dawn awakes
and of the sun
I sip

Birds cry
and of the song
I sip

Petals open
and of the beauty
I sip

Trees sway
and of the breeze
I sip

Life anew
and of this
I drink

Desire
Joanne Smith Jul 2016
I love your lips when they're wet
with wine,
and red with wild desire

I love your smile when the
warmth and love
sets my poor old heart on fire

I love your arms when your
warm white flesh
touches mine in warm embrace

I love your hair, like a
gilded cage
to enmesh kisses on my face

I love you, just the way
you are
Uninhibited......Unafraid

Accepting the Inevitable
Joanne Smith Jul 2016
Come rest your weary head
upon my pillow
And let us dream of times
when love was ours
Forget the world
with all its tears and sorrow
And remember the good times
which we shared

For when tomorrow comes
it will be over
And gone forever will be
what we had
But the memories we share
remain unspoken
Locked deep within our hearts
A treasured past

One never knows what fate
Life may have in store
What happiness we chance to find
Or the misery we endure
But knowing how much pleasure
One can bring with just a smile
A kindly word, a friendly joke
Which you've given all the while

However there are some
Whom with this would not agree
And yet what right have they
to judge, the likes of you and me
For all we try to do is please
And somehow ease the plight
of those around for whom we care
Yet all we do is lose the fight

Mothers
Joanne Smith Jul 2016
A mother is so special
In every little way
The things she says
Just make you smile
With each passing day

She comforts you in sorrow
She shelters you from harm
She shares your joy
And quills your fears
And when angry makes you calm

Whenever you are lonely
She'll be there by your side
And this is why
We love her so
'Cos in life she is our guide

The Christmas Story
Joanne Smith Jul 2016
The night was cold
The air was crisp
And lambs were heard afar
The Shepherd sat
With crook in hand
And gazed upon a star

The star was bright
With outstretched rays
It shone with such intent
Then all around
Was heard a song
A heavenly choirs' lament

We bring glad tidings
Of great joy
And peace on earth to men
Goodwill henceforth
For born this day
A King in Bethlehem

The Shepherd stood
Then with a lamb
Tucked safe within his vest
Followed the star
O'er the land
Until it came to rest

And there behind
A stable door
Angel's sang with glory
How on that night
So crisp and cold
Began the Christmas Story

Perfect Gifts
Joanne Smith Jul 2016
Pick me a flower
And give me your soul
Show me your spirit
But bury your gold
Never betray me
Nor show me your shame
Hold me so gently
And don't try to tame
Treat me like silk
Let me fly free
For only when I have these will you know me

Paul
Joanne Smith Jul 2016
I love the way you hold me in your gaze
The softness of your skin and gentle touch
Your body's warmth as in your arms I lay
Unspoken words within that say so much

My name upon your lips when first we kiss
I listen as your heart beats next to mine
To feel your gentle breath upon my skin
And knowing that our souls are now entwined.
