In the midst
Of vast darkness
And the shadows which lure,
We must provide our own light.

Brutal
Forceful
Unforgiving
It does not work with us,
But only against

Through this,
We must provide our own light.

Warmth for the cold
Joy for the sad
Triumph for the failure

One which does not waver
Nor falter
But only flickers during the night.

The void is filled

Meaningless turns into
Meaningful

The sky is shimmering!
The sun’s rays resonate for miles!
What a beautiful day,
But no one smiles

Something so pure, so precious
An expressive style
A source of happiness and wonder
Yet not one smile

Bland faces
Blank stares,
Gray colors,
No cares

Is it empty?
Can I make my plea?
One person, one person
Please set me free!

Did I ask for too much?
Oh don’t be absurd
One smile, one smile
Was all you preferred!

If that is so true,
Then I am defeated
And I’ll stand by my word
My soul depleted

As the wind wisps my hair
And my body takes the leap,
I close my eyes, my heart
And begin to weep

Encompassed by the waves
I will float on
Unmoving, unsettled
I am forever gone

Some ask me why
And the answer is clear,
For a day without a smile
Is not one worth to persevere
This was written as a ballad. A lot of times I think rhyme schemes are a bit elementary....but it worked for this.
A little back story - I once heard that a man who had killed himself by jumping of the Golden Gate Bridge had left a  note stating that if one person had smiled on his walk to the bridge he wouldn't commit suicide. No one did.....
And here we are.
