Doldrums
Jere Gallup Jul 2014
Summer doldrums,
Morning heat risers
On the sky,
High nubile towers
In the distance,
Freshwater fountains
To slowly refresh,
Washing over
Water and land,
Beating down
The soaking rains,
Their tall images
Standing there,
Thunder sounds
Barely echo there,
All puffed-up
And neatly draped,
Hung like white
Formal tablecloths
Across the everglades.

DOOMSDAY CLOCK
Jere Gallup Jun 2014
I watch the clock hands
On the wall
Turn up to twelve
Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock,
And again my wife
Beckons me
To come to bed,
Not sit steadfast
In all that dread;
But thoughts still
Rumble around
Inside my head,
How slow the time passes
As the hour approaches,
How time stands still
Almost to the second,
As clock hands
Reach twelve,
As clock watchers watch
Time almost to a stop,
Abrupt to an end
Straight up;
While the rest ignore__
Say, a watched ***
Never boils,
Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock,
Tick-Tock,
How doomsday
Never comes.

ESCADRILLES
Jere Gallup May 2014
Momentum turns me
Up a broken driveway,
Truck’s suspension
Bucks and sways
In a nose-up attitude,
Into the thick, green
Canopy above.

Almost like a flying
__Circus,
Except green for blue,
Reminders of my
Primary days

Nose higher in a T-34,
Vibrating and shaking,
Headlong into a fall;

“Hold it!” He shouts,
“Hold the nose!”
The air so full of glory,
The slow settling back,
Then over in a full
And hair-raising,
Stomach churning,
Hammerhead Stall,
And off we go…
Nose-down hard,
Again and again.

ARSES
Jere Gallup May 2014
Arses to arses
And farces to farces,
No way of telling
The difference
We make__
Given the boredom
Of sitting around,
And them deciding
Who's first to punch
And who's first to duck.
