Hands shaking, a tremor, uncontrollable, the emotions jutter out of the body, a physical reaction to losing your best friend. A single tear falls down a sunken cheek but the face doesn’t move. The tear duct burns, that ache just behind the eyes, the sockets feel bruised, your throat swelling behind the scenes. Nothing left to be said, no words where only screaming would do. A complete breakdown… of communication, of understanding, a loss, an indescribable loss. That pain in your chest, if it had a colour it would be electric, ELECTRIC! Burning embers, smouldering disappointment. The phrase “gutted like a fish” comes to mind. Later, naked in the bath, hunched over, shuddering tears into the mass of water you’ll remember, that’s exactly how you’ll look. And feel. Slimy, empty. Only full now of hollowing electric disappointment.
A poem about the feelings when a relationship ends.
