The Fire Burns Jul 2018
We hauled hay, picked watermelons and worked in grocery stores.
We picked up our girlfriends on Friday nights and hoped that we would score.
We drank trashcan punch out by the lake soaking in the sun.
we did stupid **** when we were young, but man did we have fun.
The Fire Burns Jul 2018
A floating island of multicolored boats,
clustered outside the golf course greens,
bobbing in blue waters, white waves slosh,
bathing-suited and bikinied people waiting.

A speck and a sound approach in the sky,
the first of many roaring and tumbling planes,
in different sizes, colors, and abilities,
all performing to a synchronized radio station.

As the sun sets, and the planes fly away,
sparks of blue, and green and gold start,
the fourth of July fireworks begin as
Lee Greenwood sings, "I'm Proud to be an American".

I used to read and see just fine,
now I wear glasses all the time,
my hair was full and feathered then
now I am a bald, just smooth skin.

Was the captain of the football team,
now I rub down with icyhot cream,
my back is shot with pinched nerves,
every joint creaks and they all hurt.

Was in shape, man I was cut,
now trying to lose this gut,
used to stay out every night,
now its time for bed when no sunlight.

Drinking beer and liquor with no care,
now the hangovers I just can't bare.
still hanging out with my friends,
guess we all adapt until the end.

Perfect evening  time of year,
let's go outside and drink a beer,
relax and watch the sun go down,
the lights come on, all over town.

Nothing going on this weekend,
think I'll invite all my friends,
have some drinks and just chill,
throw some steaks out on the grill.

In the morning hit the lake,
try to get passed this headache,
watching girls in bikinis,
shaking up ***** martinis.

Summer weekends are the best,
if I don't want to I won't get dressed,
sit in my chair and watch Netflix,
or maybe write some new lyrics.

Could go outside and mow the lawn,
take a nap, or stifle this yawn,
the choices are all up to me,
come on over, hang out an see.

Speaking of sea, lets hit the beach
it's far but not beyond our reach,
road trips are always the best,
let's give our stamina a test.

Whatever we do let's make it count,
weekend fun is always paramount,
cause Monday morning back to work,
let's hope my boss is not a ****.

Sizzle, pop, and steam,
the butter melting is a dream,
the earthy smell of olive oil,
added as I begin to toil.

Garlic smashed and onion diced,
thrown in with jalapeno spice,
into the pan to saute
this meal is underway.

Add the shrimp and smell the sea,
turning pink as you can see,
the smell of licorice from anise seed,
my hunger is in screaming need.

Unlid the rice and yellow steam,
from the saffron trapped sunbeam,
carrot raisin slaw, smell the sweet,
will play off of the peppers heat.

Shrimp scampi and saffron rice,
pineapple ring and slaw is nice,
Finish it off with tiramisu,
smell the coffee, taste the brew.

the table circles
knights surrounding Camelot
a magician lurks
The Fire Burns May 2018
Nothingness, blackness, a living veil,
the wooden stick in my fingers,
am I ready for the light, or shall it remain unlit.
