Mirror Friction

Mere Fiction

Your selfish selfies
are always ready, never messy.

A pocket mirror, antenna included
is a perfect filter, flaws excluded.

"Am I the fairest of them all?"
You ask daily.

"I like you
more than most things in this world."

"That's too bad", you say.
"I was looking for likes (plural)"

I Feel Like Nothing
James Lindsay Apr 2012
I feel like nothing.  something wanting to want anything. failing to find meaning.  Diving deep inside my being with nothing to be seen.

A switch with no on button.  A battery one-sided confiding within.  Coal with no need for diamonds.  A clam spitting out sand and diving.  A bull running away from red.  And a mule who hates other mules.

A pebble dropped in my puddle.

A well is all dried and set aflame with dead leaves.  A flower for a fire and a cold flame buried by a ghost.  hopes for the past in a meaningless circle digging deeper with each motion.

The pebble sank and met another pebble at the bottom where they ground each other into non-existence.

You have involuntarily decided my fate.  it's okay.  Nothing is a team effort.  We win alone and die alone.  A nothing.  Aspiring nothingness.  Nearly impossible.  Not even plausible.  I desire myself.  And the things that I love are always hurt.

Roam Home (Night Thinks #2)
James Lindsay Nov 2011
I’ve got enough to say but enough is too much when time is out of essence and patience shrinks.  Meandering around the point can create petals around a flower or footprints on a grave.

Trendy personality.

Flimsy in actuality.

Your grave in your heart is holding what’s left of your mind while you lead your prickly appetite for deterioration through Avenue You.

Those who turn away are not curious, but imaginative.

They leave a wick for you to light their timebomb and are ever-satisfied with an infinite globe.

Spare little attention to those who roam and always mindful of those at home.

i don’t claim to set the boundaries on my freedom.

checkpoints tend to become distractions

the trees shapeshift in the night buried deep in the sinking kingdom

frightfully stirring, unconsciously aligning through permeable borders

forwards cowards

onwards or bend backwards

a gripped touch shuffled past emotions, lowering and cowering

concealed by a brash rhythm.

subtle inclinations shiver your frown

freedom can be locked in a box unruled.

the kingdom with a forgotten crown

and a lonely clown not fooled.

What you made will fade.

a mending that needs tending.

James Lindsay Dec 2011
a sign to create is time to meditate.
the tower of an idea indicates the shadow it will make.
a moment too soon is never too late to hesitate
if not for you, then for who’s sake?

we are falling into autumn through winter’s eyes
with no reason to emphasize the realization
that we are all one size in each other’s eyes.

be calm.  not numb.
be soft.  not dull.
and confirming your own identity isn’t always the remedy.

you never know whats on your doorstep until you answer it.
but this is only half of a half.
you must also ask
do i let it in or take it and run as far i can?
just don’t turn away
please don’t turn away
from a seed of a shadow.

Porcelain Memories
James Lindsay Dec 2011
changing while softly slipping.
constantly moving with never enough room.
ending right in the middle of beginning
and always, too soon.

we feel nothing for the shapes of things.
we dive down in search for our wings
but first,
a few more hours of circling.

a spoonful of memories is all we need now.
better than handfuls of dust
or hinges with rust
anyhow.

draw us a picture without any clues,
and we'll sing you a song
describing the news.

come one
and come another,
but dont tell anyone
for they will be a bother.

there will be fresh secrets for all,
and nothing to remember or forget
provided one answers the call.
albeit, maybe none is met,
and we actually do forget.

what are we supposed to mean
when we are believing when we should be doubting?
what a scene
when it is actually seen.

isn't a bit freeing
when you're forgetting?

but why do i always remember the ending the best?

Feel it in the middle.
Seal it full of riddles.
          the resonating presence
          is rarely full of resentment.
Peel away a little
But never reveal
          the bitter middle.

that false tickle of an instinct
overshadowed by understated feelings.
         a swarming sensation that brings
               deafening vibrations.
         a fuzzy manifestation
               triggers chemical complications.

the fever dream will seem
                 full of meaning
when feelings are fleeting.

The reasons will send you reeling.

            a treasure in a truth
                        is not the same
as a lesson in a lie.

I know both feelings
