The Devil's Prosecutor
James Davis Jan 2014
Is sacrifice contingent with results or effort?
Is a man judged on his intentions or his actions?
Can one man alleviate the duties of a entire team?
Does age really come with wisdom?
Should you take food away from one mouth to put into another?
Should unconditional help have a manual or a dollar amount?
No need to buy seeds for ground that won't yield any results
Nor is there any need to stargaze in the sky when there is rain coming down
A chameleon has no advantage to someone who can't see colors
Neither is bestowing rags on a king.
Is forgiveness accepted only when the victim is in need?
or is it trash for a overflowing dump of emotions?

I see you.
James Davis Sep 2013
I see you.
Not for what you think you are
But for what you have become.
I see you.
Not the make up on your face
or the jeans that caress your waist.
I see you.
Put make up on your face, just love how it feels,
But criticize my character for not being real.
I see you.
You might think you see me,
I thought my love could fit like a key
Blind to my own insecurities that I can't see
but I see you.
Why must you feed me lies?
Smile on my face, as my confidence in you slowly dies
Yes, I see you.
Seasons change like leaves, once what we built falls.
Happiness in your heart, out of stock in the malls.

What is...
James Davis Sep 2013
What is a sunrise to a man without eyes?
If you pick a rose from its roots, does the rose scream and cry?
What is the dry truth amongst a pool full of lies?
What is material wealth, if it doesn't exist once we die?
What is a pair of shoes, if they aren't your size?
Why play the game, if you don't even attempt to go try?
What is a hidden secret, if you team has a mole?
What is gaining the whole world, but losing your soul?
What is a full of cup of water, if the cup has a hole?
What good is a gun, if you don't know how to load?
What is a sobriety to a man who lives to do dope?
What is life to man who lives with no hope?
What is liberty to a free man who lives but don't vote?
What is car insurance to a man without a car note?
What is a servant, sitting at a table for kings?
What is a canary in trees, that cries but don't sings?
What is life, if you can't appreciate none of the bad things?
What is flying in the air, if you have no wings?
James Davis Sep 2013
Speak with passion, never live a life of God with any fear
14 years is a fortnight of tears,
I go to sleep, just to see if your image still appears
My disassociation of my peers
Changed my way, but got stuck in my gears
If the ending is near, I die with no fears
The pain inside is a guiding light
I grip to every secret insecurities with all my might
Just to be judged by man that I'm not living right
My critics are angels in the light but devils in the musk of the night
I believe true vision doesn't come from just from our eyesight
I just love the thought of living more than if I'm going to die tonight
A man dies inside if he has no work, you can cut down the tree, but the roots are still in the dirt
Although, my father, your body rest easy in the midst of this earth
My success is only the trickle from the top of the product of your work.
Never see a limitation, only imagine the celebration
Conscience ******* of the mind of a people who were ostracized by our own nation
Memories of our time, often leaves my young mind so vacant
So I get on my knees, and thank God that you made him
I didn't know back then how precious is each day
From a sharecropper to a degree to from Penn State, life is only a code if you know how to crack safes.
One life you get, I promise I'll never waste it
Your no longer here, but thank you God that you made him.
Rest in peace, Mason Land Sr. The greatest grandfather a man could ever pray for.

Forget Me Not
James Davis Sep 2013
Forget me not as I find myself
Blind to the lies, my knowledge is my own true wealth
Dreams that I lay upon Orion's belt
Your heart is ice cold, passion will make it melt
Forget me not as I walk blind
Right part of the road, wrong side of the lines
Mother nature caresses me faithfully as I feel the wrath of Father Time
I search for clarity, but I cannot find
Squashed grapes on the ground of lies told through the life's grapevine
Forget me not as my heart endures life's maze
Guide me, Lord, through this very day
Spring my faith, like the gentle flowers of May
Tomorrow isn't promised, so all we can do is pray.

Dreams
James Davis Aug 2013
Feed me lies
I've been full of myself lately
I concede to it
The Sacrifice to greatness is
Retribution amongst kings
Spades wins again
My cup runth over as balance of power is shift
Winning has a new status quo;
Renaissance of cool

Eclipse
James Davis Aug 2013
Countless night pondering on the first star to rise and the last one to fall
I become submerged in a feeling of shame
Am I your timely muse or your periodical man?
If I sneak through a back door to see you, should you use a vail to cover your face as we leave through the front door?
Momma told me, love is blind but what exactly is love at first sight?
I lust for loyalty as I swim a riptide of cherry wine and surf on memories of us
But still I move the weight of our love, and just see the outline of what was
The best is overshadowed by the worst of me; an eclipse of truth

Redemption
James Davis Jul 2013
Red dirt rivers traveled down the hill towards the stream behind the house
Tall oaks trees are all occupied with crows and sparrows avoiding the steady rain
"This is sleeping weather", said my grandfather as he reclines in his chair admiring the beauty of the storm
Robust streams of lighting illuminates the grey covered skies
A cold chill penetrates the dense humidity built from weeks of no rain
Steam arising from the pavement, as the rain heals the ground punished from the unforgiving South Carolina sun
Deep echoing thunder speaks to everything and everyone in its presence to listen,
"That's God talking and you better listen, my son"

Dust to Dust
James Davis Jul 2013
At last the end is near,
I crawl out of the rain
Father Time has gotten the best of me
I gain nothing but a wooden box
Like shoes being stored away
Top of the world, to the bottom of sea
Still I am but sand in Father Time's hourglass
Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

— The End —
