Sirius
Ivory Hill Jan 2022
he's bright and he glistens as he drifts throughout the night sky
illuminating the parkways and buildings

all who have seen him
marvel at him and his magnificent gleam

he's memorable enough for a lifetime
he's a star that dominates the darkest of skies

he's Sirius

the wheel in the sky

the wheel in the sky
we call the moon
prefers to shine quite brightly

down on all the pedestrians and structures
into the windows and homes

of the content little children

the stressed
glum
constantly agitated
angry
passionless
teens

preparing for all the exhaustion and pressure
the world will bring them
tomorrow
and the day after tomorrow
and the day after that
and that
and that

the stars that twinkle and shine
like the tears i shed
that day
years ago
with that wheel in the sky

numb
Ivory Hill Jan 2022
what would it be like
to feel nothing at all?

numb
empty
or, i suppose, just a lack of feeling altogether

it could be like saying goodbye to someone you love
for a very final time
but before processing
realising
and accepting
that they’re really gone

in some cases
it feels like a temporary
and much needed
relief

from the straining stresses of our growing
corrupted world

a compression from common, trivial, tiring responsibility
that feels like thousands of massive
heavy
weights
just sitting on your shoulders
waiting for you to give into the pressures of our incorrigible society

just waiting for you to crumble
and
collapse

into nothing

while you
sitting there
like a useless pile of rubble

are numb

a sensation i now dread
knowing what it feels like
