I aim for my heart and I pull the trigger.
Then sew it back up, leaving a scar as a reminder.

In that moment you left me
When I was most unaware
Eyes recently opened
Yet no memories to share
Within four walls I learned to crawl, but
never could I run
Eternal growth a poor reflection
Of a monotonous routine
14 seasons past and I gained nothing
The first and only choice you made or me.

Let your words seep in
that they may drown out all noise.

Be my shield
from all stones thrown in my direction.

Lay the foundation
on which I will stand and not be shaken.

Just a thought, a mere whisper,
And all of a sudden the slight breeze begins to howl.
Dark clouds sweep overhead,
And eclipse the guiding light.
The once calm waves begin to topple and clash,
And drown out all rational thought.

Tumbling over and over between the waves.
Quick pulses beat against my skull
Bead of sweat puddle between my clammy hands,
Slight shaking of my legs,
Hint at my inability to step forward.
Fully engulfed in unceasing worry,
I turn away;
The tide ebbs back.
