STEADY
I Garcia Mar 2018
Baby steps are still steps, my dearest,
and you can walk slowly and hold on to me
until you feel steady.
And once you feel steady my dear,
once you truly feel steady –
I have faith that you will run.

Late nights and early mornings;
The air is heavy with the scent of sickly sweet smoke.
Dim lights – or just blurred vision?
Heavy techno blaring in the background.
I feel great, do you?
In the background is Nirvana and giggling,
You’re whispering in my ear.
It smells like teen spirit and cigarettes. And,
Are those cabinets really melting?
We’re locked in our ivory tower,
an asylum for the reality-deprived.
The room is too small for the people in it,
there is nowhere to sit. So,
Sit on my lap – I do.
The air tastes like honey and the water smells crisp.
How do you feel?
I feel great. Indestructible; unfading; imperishable.
How about you?
Beyond these four walls,
it’s hard to remember that life exists
So lost in our castle in the sky.
A permanent hallucination where
Everything is beautiful and nothing is wrong.
I see trails; I smell tea; I taste plastic; I hear blissful pandemonium.
Do you want more?
More ecstasy?
Yes - I want this ecstasy forever.
A drug in the form of naïve delight.
Escaping reality has never tasted so good.

I had a dream about you last night
I'm starting to lose track of the places
I've left pieces of my heart behind
My life is a story of gross actions and lies
I have good intentions but
I don't execute them properly
I know I hurt you but
I'm going to hope I didn't, anyway
Not sure what I would say if I saw you now
I’d probably try to say hi and entice you again
Take you home with me
knowing it’s the wrong thing to do
Oh well, can’t say you’d be surprised, right?
Sounds like something I would do…
