Let's Talk About...
Heather Renee Feb 2014
Let's talk about feminism
Let's discuss the social perception of the cause
How misgonists claim we are equal
How bigots claim we are immoral
How ignorants can say, 'She had it coming'

Let's talk about equality
Let's explore the land of opportunity
Where being gay is 'a choice'
Where racism is more subtly projected
Where women are still fighting for equal rights

Let's talk about feminism
Let's examine **** culture
How men are excused by intoxication
How women are condemned by the same
How people can say, 'Well he is your boyfriend, isn't that what you do?'

Let's talk about equality
Let's analyze the current state of equality
Where in some states, you're protected
Where in some states, you're rejected
Where in some states, you're infected

Let's talk about feminism
Let's study the modern chauvinistic idea
How women aren't as strong
How women aren't as smart
How women aren't as logical

Let's talk about a revolution
Let's inspire a renaissance
Where equality is revelant and boundless
Where feminism is celebrated
Where protesting is unncessary

Let's talk about a revolution

They say come as you are and repent
Forget all the questions and time spent
Of finding yourself
When the answers are on the top shelf

They're in the drawers of hotels, of places we went
As they questioned our morals, are we decent?
And they scream come as you are
Just please don't take things too far

When all the people are gone
I'll send my regards to Alderaan
Because I've heard he'll destroy the world unknown
For the Bible tells me so
Teenage perception of religion. Subtle Star Wars cameo was necessary.

Til Then
Heather Renee Feb 2014
I hope you're settled in
And you like you're new friends
We'll be united again

Just tell the man upstairs
To please hear my prayers
You know they'll all be for you

I'm not that far myself
From eternal wealth
Darlin' I'm coming home to you

But til we meet again
Believe, my friend
I would never forget
This was written as an Ode to my late ex's family during his passing. Rest easy Nasty Nate, see you on the other side.

In Love and Hate
Heather Renee Feb 2014
You thought you broke that day
You thought you broke straight in half alongside our history

I thought I saw a vision of heart ache
Completely separated from reality
I couldn't bear watching you fall

And yes I apologize a hundred times
Because I was not strong, nor am I still
But I was not strong enough to keep you up

I was still falling down
I would have pulled you down at twice the velocity
Creating an atomic bomb like effect that would sweep everyone we know and love
Continuously destroying ourselves in the process

They told us just hold it in, **** it up, stick it out
No one takes into consideration the misery of two people in love and in hate under one roof
Until we embrace in an irreversible head on collision

I've never hit so hard, you know

I've never questioned my sanity and decisions more

Before you, there was clarity
And before you there was certainty
Before you I was living as though I could never die

And after you... it seems as though I already have
After you I can't even stiffen this upper lip enough to explain my sorrow
My passion... my regret

After you there's just a memory
Just a silhouette lurking, stalking, suffocating me
Consistently reminding me:
This is heart break
This is loneliness
And this is what you did

Can't shake a shadow

But some days, while I pass our old apartment
Exposed piping, high ceilings
Just what you always wanted
I'll reminisce, chest heavy, head numb
I'll remember that what we had was real

I was real, you were real, love is well alive and real
Tell me it was real, wasn't it?

Beacuse you can lie, and scream and deny for eternitys
But the way I held you when you shattered to pieces
And by the way you glued yourself back to help rebuild me
That's reality and that's definite

That was us

Depiction of Addiction
Heather Renee Feb 2014
Living life with an altered mind
Seeing reality from blurry eyes
Every day seems shorter, I thought I was fine
Where is the time?

When I got a hold of that ****
I said it'd all be fine
That's before I lived life with an altered mind
I said it won't become a habit
That's really not my kind
I just didn't see it coming
Some might call me blind

It was all right there, perfect for you to see
Every action, every method, led to what I'd be
Coming to the realization, I ******* hate sober me
Rock bottom hit harder, than I could have seen

It's a parasitic being that will eat you alive
It burrows deep inside you, something I just couldn't find
And you need to let it go, but can't leave it behind
Every thought, every judgement, all becomes intertwined

Living life with an altered mind
Seeing reality from blurry eyes
Every day seems shorter, I thought I was fine
Where is the time?
