I looked into his eyes
Black pools of despair

The crow with the tilted head
The crooked beak

I looked into his eyes
A dark foreboding

There are bleak days ahead.
You are so very close
The proximity is unbearable

Yet we are so far away in our hearts
The distance is unbearable

And when my thoughts are upon you
A flutter taunts the pit of my stomach
Like a nervous bird, caged

Shivers run the length of my body when we touch
My pulse races when your mouth leans in
To whisper words of provocation to my ear

Alas! as raw as the feelings are for me
Are they for you?

For the truth of the matter is
Your heart is with another.
I built a wall
A vertiginous wall

I stacked the bricks one by one
The mortar binding them was invincible, I thought

I built that wall until it became a fortress,
Surrounding me
Protecting me

And you came, a marvel of a storm
Sundered the mortar and tore my wall

Yet a foot I kept
Upon the ground, upon a brick.
Comfort in those arms
Solace where my head lies
Upon that chest
And underneath, a heart that beats
To the rhythm of the stars

And my hands
Their fingers gliding
Through a mane of golden hair
Glistening like the lances of the Sun
Mirroring on the river that flows upon those shoulders

My mind slips away
Fleeing elsewhere
Shining of its own light
As the waxing Moon.
When the Sun fades over the horizon
Darkness cloaks the skies above

When night breaks free and shadows veil the land
The stars appear and gaze below

Behold the twilight!
The gleam of distant fires
Beacons of hope and memory

The blackest abyss broods endlessly beyond the twilit curtain of the night.
