You scared me, Augustus, you really did;
I hate the feeling of smoke in my lungs, and yet
I found myself wishing I was cancer-free
So I could stand with you as you pulled out a cigarette.

But you just held it there between your lips;
It was the epitome of a metaphor,
And I stood there in utter disbelief,
Wanting more and more and more.

And the more I got, the more I loved -
Even your horrid driving (I’d drive with you
Until the end of time, Augustus, it wasn’t your
Time, Augustus, I’ll say it again, “I do.”).

These tears are a side effect of love,
And the fault was in our stars, but someday
We will unite again, Augustus, because our
Love is immeasurable and immortal, okay?

Promises

Were they lies, or broken promises?
The times you told me you’d stay,
But fled the moment a better opportunity
Presented itself; what can I say?

I was foolish. Time and time again,
Alone, that was where I found myself,
The walls caving in just as quickly as your
Promises, the room collapsing in on itself.

I looked up “promises” in the dictionary,
But they got it wrong; the definition should read:
“things you may have meant for a moment
But threw away so quickly…” Do you see?

Perhaps the worst was “I love you”;
An unspoken promise that leaves me crying
At your blatant disregard for my heart;
I should’ve known you were lying.
after one euphoric kiss
you hardly notice
her weathered cheeks

she is a Venus
she's tenacious
her beauty sticks

it moves you to tears
when went the years
you didn't notice

she matured from teen
ripened her green
since that euphoric kiss

how it's so
her beauty's glow
breezed past you

it moves you to tears
though ripened the years
she was ever new

was it so far
you right beside her
yet gave her a miss

ripened her years
you now see through tears

the first euphoric kiss
The Was a Girl who was always thinking,
She wanted to escape her mind,
She always felt trapped, Alone, Afraid, Depressed,
Everyday She hoped that she would find someone to take that all away,
She begged to her goddess for an angel,
To Take her away,

She was a normal Girl,
Quiet, Shy, Smart, Pretty, but in her eyes that wasn't what she cared for,
What she cared for was a boy who would become Her Man,
Who would make her Enjoy being who she is,
Who Would make her Smile every day,
Who would give her butterflies,
Who would make her blush and giggle in a Rose Pink joy,
She Went to school, and had her eye on a boy,
Though he could not be hers, she still Longed for him,

over time,
She soon began not to care, he was not the boy that she wanted to become Her Man,
Every day, When she got home love was all she wanted to deal with,
It was the only thing on her mind, She cared not for Home work, nor the  missing assignments,
Every time she was home, she wanted to leave,
To find the one Boy to become Her Man, to help her learn how to enjoy Life again,

Some Days she would take a nap,
Those days She dreamed of someone who held her close,
He would not let her go,
And She the same, She Could feel what love was,
She was In Love,
She looked upon his face, Seeing everything she could ever dream of,
and his kiss was all that she needed to feel alive,
But sadly...
This Girl awoke from her Dream...
And she went on again in life... waiting for him to come to life...
Knowing he was out there, Doing the same,
Dreaming of her,
and Giving all his heart and life to her.
Smell of last rain still not dried on their bark
They stand skyward taller somber and dark
I part the sodden grass to see if there’s a mark
Of the autumn’s trail when I last walked the park!

Does it still survive there the hushed canopied shade
Where sweet nothings were whispered commitments made
Dreams grew like wild grass and then in despair bled
As time ripped the woven words made them a barren glade!

Do they still come there in two lover’s timeless face
Sit on the wooden bench embraced in sculpted grace
For in those summer noons they hadn’t an address
Except in the labyrinth of heart a misty priceless place!

Can I still find them the two heads drawing close
Looking bonded for eternity breathing from one nose
Never making it but never timeworn forever new
In the pursuit of autumn’s trail the duo of me and you!

Smell of last rain still not dried on their bark
They bough over the couples in foliage green dark
For years will breeze past but they’ll make their mark
When they choose to hold hand and walk into the park!

He was in love in a time I was not,
he fell out slowly;
I fell in. Deeply and tragically.

You and I

Droplets fall, cascade
Around me; I wade
Deeper, inhale, hold my breath.
Fully submerged now,
I ask myself: how
Can such beauty cause one’s death?

The flickering flame,
It hisses your name,
Spells it out in thin grey smoke.
The room is cold now –
I ask myself: how
Will this fix the love I broke?

I am a downpour;
You wanted much more…
After all, you were a fire.
Tried to douse your flame
With some of my rain,
But could not douse desire.
this is an alouette.

Love like paper cuts,
Stuck in endless ruts,
Frostbite in the heat of June;
Shattered crystal doors,
Oil covered floors,
Lonely in a crowded room.

Love like Friday night -
Strike a match, ignite
Everything we see and feel;
Endless summer skies,
Your glittering eyes…
None of it was ever real.

Love like caution signs,
Walking fragile lines,
Blindfolded on a tightrope;
Hanging by a thread,
Ignoring the red,
Still clinging to my last hope.

Things they used to say:
“Poetry is gay”
“Nobody likes a bookworm”
“That’s an awful song”
“You do not belong”;
Their taunts were painfully firm.

Things I used to think:
“How do they not know
Edgar Allan Poe?”
“Why do they stare when I write?”
“What is wrong with me?”
“What can I not see?”
I was always stuck in night.

Things I know today:
I still love the way
Words and music intertwine,
And despite their words
(And though they still hurt),
I’m perfectly fine.

Gossamer
She is five years old,
And her heart is sold
On a giant teddy bear;
She begs her mother,
Claiming no other
Toy is worth her tender care.

She is ten years old,
And her heart is sold
On the boy that lives next door,
As if he’s a prize
(His icy blue eyes
Are what she truly adores).

She’s sixteen years old
And her heart is sold
On that shiny, new black car
She says, “I can pay
And though I won’t stay
I will never travel far.”

She’s eighteen years old,
And her heart is sold
On a book of memories;
Her parents will cry
When she says goodbye,
But she’ll miss them - can’t they see?
