The sound is as vivid as if the events had just taken place, what just happened?

My mind races as the sound catches up to me.

In life we must face the fire,
Smoke and wood burning ever brighter,
Though pain and suffering we live,

Power can lead to ones brain
Leaving the hopeless out to starve in the rain
