The beat of the crowd
Erik Behrans Feb 2013
The seeker the loner the lover the keeper
The thrower the catcher the leaper
The believer the stoner the beater
The busser the cleaner the waiter
The water the sinker the caster the bleeder
The runner the stunner the teacher the preacher
The heater the steeper the meeker the feature the
Sliding the slipping and sloshing and
Crawling and creeping and cutting and kissing
Dishing and wining and dining and hissing
Looking and seeing believing and breeding
Heaving mashing heaping seeding
Feeding flooding fretting keeping
Shining a lining flowing and flipping
Tripping sipping showing shipping
Beating the beat of the poem of the people

Negative Degrees
Erik Behrans Feb 2013
The temperature of the day
I wake to feel its chill from the previous day
Rise from bed and peer to the morning sky
It is jeering at me behind the glass pane
Heaps of invisible fangs ready to strike out at you
On every traversed hill and wall
It strikes at you with a last ditch attempt to dispatch you
But you continue regardless
Your face numb and featureless
The only warmth you feel is your escaping breath
Moments before it returns to the cold
The cold is a reminder of suffering
But there is hope
For the cold is only a sacrifice for warmer days
And the horizons winds bring a new day
And a step closer to the elusive natural warmth

Sunshine
Erik Behrans Jan 2013
Bright and endearing a light for us all
Bring on the day bring on the light
Take my elation to new heights
Be truthful be happy be warm be free
For the sun is shining and we all must see

Peace be
Erik Behrans Jan 2013
Peace be to me to you to see
This life is a pity amid the dirt concrete city
The people walk a speak like sheep
Follow me take the leap!
In the deep there scheming in the heat
The sun shines but inside the suns blind
The people are looking for something they cannot find
Beat the propaganda slander and trickery
Flip it on me topple the tables and stables
Cane and Able are all fables but rather symbols
To be represented and presented to the people
For the words you speak is the key
Peace Be

Within A Broken System
Erik Behrans Jan 2013
Awaken oh brother awaken to your feet
For it is a new day that you must meet
Your square awaits and you must cooperate
Or face the despair of no food for your plate
Change is futile and your must forget hope
For a new day is dawning and you have to cope
Put on your suit and tie up your shoes
For the new day awaits and you must choose
You are a face in the crowd
And your smile is proud
But I see through your guise oh brother
I see your fire
For we both know what we both desire
Freedom from our shackles and Freedom for all
For what we believe matters is ever so small
Meet me on the hill for our plans are set
Free this world from the broken system that we have both met
See to it that no one is harmed
But remember the pen is mightier than the sword and the world is waiting for your linguistic charm

What do you See?
Erik Behrans Jan 2013
Some look to the Sky
The great expanse fascinates them
Their great wonder drives them to look beyond the sky and ponder their own existence
Some look to the Earth
The earths great riches drives them to understand why it is here
Some look to the Arts
The creativity of cultures brings them closer to their own inner richness
Some look to humanity
These people learn the most important lesson of all
Their eyes see a world in need of change
They dream of a new free world but wake up to a different reality
Greed and excess has poisoned the souls of Mankind
Those in search of knowledge are not able to display their full potential
We see these sufferings but are helpless to stop it
But what they do not realize is they are not alone
Once the eyes are opened they can only see what needs to be seen
