I stand here the sole survivor,
Of the world consumed by fear.

A witness to unspeakable horror,
My testimony stained with my tears.

Hindsight I've heard comes too easy,
But this story just had to be told.

I point not a finger at my brethren,
But shine light on a world that grew cold.

Out of the apex of despicable tragedy,
Surfaced a solution so undeniably clear,

Better that we give our freedom away,
Then let the enemy control us with fear.

Too quickly this nation relinquished,
Their founding fathers unalienable rights,

And a country engulfed in its anger,
Followed leaders with little foresight.

Manipulated by media frenzy,
We declared war not on man but a word!

By the time we’d begun to realize what we’d done
We’d lost the right to be heard.

Once protections were gone, it didn’t take long,
For morality to quickly succumb.

Torture laws were revised, we all turned our eyes
From the monster we had become

Once in place there was no way to stop it,
A chain reaction we couldn’t shutoff.

At the start we didn’t want to be cowards,
So we just cut all the safety nets off.

Patriotism the drug that had numbed us,
In short time the eagle eclipsed the dove.

As our nation did fight, to set some score right?
We all died in a world without love.

Sometimes I find I don’t miss them,
This planet deserved so much better than we!

It will slowly repair, life will spring up somewhere,
If so I pray that they see

That my tale is much more then sadness,
Within it there’s a lesson to be taught

The only truth that can now be held self-evident,
Is that we put the gun to our own head and shot!
A citizen’s duty is not to support their troops, but to insure that they are sent in to theaters worthy of their sacrifice. If our solders come home less the heroes that shame lies in the hands of those that had sent them, as well as a nation that did little to stop it! Haven’t we all closed our eyes long enough? Global terrorism takes around 3,000 lives every year. We spend 1.5 billion dollars in an attempt to stop it. Cancer kills over 500,000 people each year and we spend 3 million to fight it. There is something more going on here. Honor your service men and women. Question you government. Bring it back to the “for the people” it once was. I am an American, and I demand the truth!
