fell silent

the clarity

Blistered hands, blistered feet
Hit hard and left confused
Is the rocking boat or the betrayal
making me sick?
The salt water on my cheeks
either came from the ocean or my eyes
But what difference does it make

Blistered hands, blistered feet
Broken heart
Two thousand miles couldn't soften the blow

Covered in Ivy
E Mar 2014
These old wooden floors shake with each footstep
Cold air seeps through the cracks in the walls

Dust has settled on the piano
These keys haven't been played in far too long

My mind is tired
My dry skin aches
Everything was easier when you were here

I don't remember the last thing you said to me
But I know it wasn't goodbye

What will we think when we look back on this

to get rid of you
E Jan 2014
But you see,
if I tried to get rid of
everything that reminded me of you
I would be left with nothing
You have wound your way
into every aspect of my life
I hear you in every song
I see you in every sunset
because I know you're watching the same one
And I wonder if you think of me
when you see brown eyes
or when you listen
to the songs we both love
And I wonder if it would be as hard
for you to get rid of me
as it would
for me to get rid of you
Remember when you told me to watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? Well I did, and I constantly think about what it would take to forget you.

Too much.

I could never forget you.

I'll try to forgive you
but I can't pretend nothing happened.

You broke my heart.

That happened.

Granted, you let me down gracefully
but a pillow can't stop a bullet.

Distance
E Dec 2013
It's a small world
but the world is so very big

People from forein countries
know me by name
but have you ever tried
driving across the state?

Things would be so different
if we weren't so far apart
But at the same time
distance cultivates affinity

All my senses were numb

E Jan 2014
Don't you see what you do to me?
You hold so much of my happiness
That you can easily take it away

How did I let this happen
I don't know if you really want me out of your life
But I'll try my best
I've actually been trying for a while now
(you probably couldn't tell)

I just want to sleep
But I can't sleep

My congested head is filled with thoughts
that I can't comprehend
Leaving my heart to handle

But I can't trust my heart

My heart betrays me
My heart turns against me

I just want to sleep
*But I can't sleep

Only he could make her feel
the desire to be free.
She felt it in
his composed voice,
the familiarity
so imponderable, so supple,
perfectly right.
She could not help smiling.

She understood him
for what he was.

There he sat,
weary of
so much thinking
about the
complicated affairs
in life.

He really felt happy
only when
he was listening to music
or making music himself.

She was devoted to him,
but he was well aware
that this devotion
was not free.

It's strange,
the way my mind works.
Come tomorrow
I won't remember the
math problems or history books,
but I will never forget
the way
you looked at me.

lost among the leaves
E Mar 2014
The sky used to be bright
but now the clouds conceal the sun

Climbing down from the highest branches
the wind urges me to let go
My wandering mind would soar to the clouds
while my fragile body fell to the ground

I took aim and fired
but my arrow was lost among the leaves
