Can't Wake Up
Elle Dawson Sep 2012
Sleep found its way
Between every rib and vertebrae,
So I'll just keep on hiding with my eyes closed
From the stampede of ideologies,
Blue skies and all their energies,
Everyone talking loudly, so expectant,
And all the things I've broken and am breaking.
Anyway,
Shattered glass is prettier
Sparkling in lamplight sprawled on the basement
Floor
Alone
With me
Just drifting.
Midday is calling.
I'm so sorry but I can't wake up.

Autumn
Elle Dawson Sep 2012
Look -
Silently they fall,
The little bits of fire,
Upon the earth
That's becoming dry and empty
As fast and brilliantly the sun dies.
Come with me,
We'll hide away and dream of Somewhere Else -
A place where summer is eternal.

Here is the sun.
And I am lost again in June,
Remembering how those fingers moved
To bend a note that might still resonate
On nights when sleep is hiding.
Shadow!
Dark and shining,
Lurking in the corners of this box.
Let go,
He'll slip away
If I take the long way home...
Oh, I'll just take the long way home.
