Corner Scribbles
Elizabeth P Nov 2013
On the corners of my notebook
I draw and dream
Dream of endless ivy tendrils
Swirls that go on forever
Eyes whose owner is lost
Mysterious
My world can be expressed in one
Inch by inch corner
Of heaven.

Love on Paper
Elizabeth P Nov 2013
So often I draw little things on my papers
First crosses
Then your name
Then how much I missed you
All the same
I never cried on those papers
Although somedays I felt like it
I didn't want to show such weakness
To someone like you
Next time I'll avoid someone like you

Lonesome Lotus
Elizabeth P Nov 2013
I am a lonesome lotus in this pond
Only one of its kind
I wish I could have another
Another lotus to bind roots at the pond's floor
We could dance in the breeze
Enjoying the sun's rays
If only for a season
We will die in time
But, in the least, I shall not die
Guilty and wanting for another
Because I'd have you.

Earbuds
Elizabeth P Oct 2013
Small, red transporters to another world
One doesn't even work
But they work well enough
Earbuds in, world out
Forget it all for a while
A little piece of rhythmic heaven
Claimed to calm a restless soul
Thank God for the oh so simple things we take for granted.

Late Night Writings
Elizabeth P Oct 2013
Late at night, after Mother goes to bed
She writes
To whom is unknown
Reason has no weight
The girl just writes
I suspect she loves another
Aside from family
Or she is an authoress
Creating stories for others enjoyment
I suppose it could be most anything
I leave you to wonder
Only God truly knows what is enclosed in that scroll of ink and heart

Leaf in the Road
Elizabeth P Oct 2013
I am a leaf in the road
Trod over by cars in the road
I have spectacular veins
But no one notices
This leaf knows that one day
On that damp residential street after school
Some child will come along
And bring me new life
And a new pleasure
To satisfy the curiosity of the young
Till so, I am left here to wait
To stay a leaf in the road

If Only...
Elizabeth P Oct 2013
What if...
If I had more family?
More siblings?
Gone to a different school?
Been nice to the popular girl?
What would have become of me?
While I know that life can't be based upon ifs,
It's awful curious to think about.
Then after I contemplate those questions,
I come to the conclusion that although it might not be perfect,
My life is fine as it is.

Fantasy
Elizabeth P Oct 2013
You are my fantasy
Identity unknown
Eyes of the sea
Mane of black
I will find you
Someday
Until then I shall be content with dreaming

Music
Elizabeth P Oct 2013
Sweet melodies haunt my soul
If I could not sing
Nor hum
Or tap to the rhythm
I would have gone mad long ago
For my heart is nourished by music
My mind kept in the wonders of its making
My throat itching in anticipation
Awaiting the moment I can burst forth
The day's feelings and free myself
Music is my lifeline
And without it,
Life wouldn't be worth living

Fallen Stars
Elizabeth P Oct 2013
So many fallen stars
In the sky of family
So many faces
I never got to meet
Their hydrogen burned out
Before I was born

Yet I know that they are not gone
Nor fallen
Quite the opposite
They have risen beyond
Beyond nebulas & galaxies
Into Paradise
Where pain has been elimnated And
love lives forever in the sights of the Lord
To the generations before me and the recently lost. I love y'all.

Teacher
Elizabeth P Sep 2013
You are a contradiction
You teach poetry and the art of English
You are such a good teacher
You scare the heck out of most people
You look so menacing
You talk so odd
You have so many rumors about how cruel you are
I don't think you're cruel
Just strict
At my age, that's what we need
But you are a good person
Kind to those who are the same to you
I think you are one of my favorite teachers ever
Thank you, Ms. Patterson
This doesn't really rhyme nor is it rhythmic, but this is how I feel about a teacher of mine right now. She probably wouldn't approve of this, but the likeliness that she will read this is very small.

Royal Baby
Elizabeth P Jul 2013
Pipers pipe
Pippa pips
The royal servants
Skip, skip, skip!
The whole world
Shouts with glee
As this baby is born to thee.
Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge
His Royal Highness
They all say
But he is not more than
Two days!
Child of the world
He is
And he will be till his parish date
But first he must find a mate
And create another kid
To be loved by all of Earth
Oh, what a birth!
But, until then,
We will watch him grow into a young man
And bloom into an amazing king
Who shall spread his bright beam
Across the world's stage
In honor of Prince William and his lovely wife Kate, and the newest royal, His Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge (long title!). Let God bless this new family and I hope all goes well.

Life is a Contradiction
Elizabeth P Jul 2013
Life is a contradiction.

How is it that you can be
Lost,
But remain in the same place?
Broken.
But still contain all your parts,
The manufacturer gave you?
Die,
And yet still live to see the next sunrise?
How can these actions be so true?

Life is a contradiction.

I Am Beautiful
Elizabeth P Jul 2013
Physically,
I'm not much.
Green eyes,
Roundish body.
Not much.

Mentally, however,
I am all.
Intelligent
Quick
Kind
Loving
I am beautiful.

Are you?
Don't sell yourself short and always be you. Have a nice day!

My Baby
Elizabeth P Jul 2013
Sleek little body
Fur of black
She is my Baby
Hunting fabric mice is her game
Made from my hand to her heart
She fell through the wall
But she made it through all
Baby
She is my little cat.

School
Elizabeth P Jul 2013
I know I sound like a nerd
But I miss school.
The herd of people,
The cool of autumn.
I miss school.

I miss the education,
That fills the nation,
August through June.

I miss my friends,
That have no end,
With hearts of gold,
That never get old.

I miss that plain brick building
That old traffic lane
All of those security clicks
Shielding us children from the world outside

I do miss school
I know I sound like a fool
But I miss school.

Nature of Poetry
Elizabeth P Jul 2013
Poetry has many facets
It has not a nature
But many

The lines can be whimsical
Like soap bubbles floating midair
Words as serious as a jagged piece of stone
Sentences of a beating heart
Full of love and joy
Calming like vanilla and sugar
Fresh cookies in the air
Yet so heartfelt
Bleeding out passion
Previously unknown

Although poetry has many sides
And angles
All poetry has one thing in common
It is a brilliant diamond of the mortal imagination
shining in the darkest times of humanity
bringing light where there was none before.

I think you are a friend
You support me
I know I couldn't think when we hugged
Swift happiness flooded my brain

Glass
Elizabeth P Jul 2013
My heart is one of glass,
Delicate to keep,
Smooth to the touch,
And sharp when broken.
If you break it,
Don't come back.
We don't give refunds.

Care about these eyes?
Gaze into these eyes?*

I sit,
Wondering and waiting.

Trail of Ever
Elizabeth P Jun 2013
The path of flutters float above me
Like a silk scarf
Of orange  & black waves

I halt to listen
To the quiet whisper of the trees
To the harmonious call of the jays

I look upon this glorious place
With wonder and delight
My eyes of hazel glance upon
The bark of maples and oaks
The tails of chipmunks in the beings
Of bark and branches

I venture back to my vined enclosure
And just turn back to say
"Trail of Ever, have a good day."

I call it happiness

Moments
Elizabeth P Jun 2013
I wait for the moment,
When time shall stop,
And the universe halt,
To an abrupt end.

I wait to see him.

The person I shall marry,
Become one with,
And intertwine my heart,
Soul,
And bank account with.

I wait for that moment like everyone else.
I daydream about it like every other woman,
And girl.
So here is to the guy meant for me:
I am waiting for you.

Mystery
Elizabeth P Jun 2013
Based on my current situation with a friend of mine*

His lanky build
His orange Converse sneakers
His eyes of chocolate and gold

His kind heart
His unique soul
Unafraid to show the universe
Who he is

I wish we would talk more
But he won't answer my texts
I feel so needy
And so mixed

And so I wait for
Mystery to answer
Answer back to me
And so I wait.

Water
Elizabeth P Jun 2013
Water is life.
Water is our beginning
Straight out of our mother's womb
Water is the midsection
Keeping us going
Alive
Water is our end
Floating into memories
Rich of grief
And yet full of hope
That although life is short
Our life will be remembered and cherished
By the generation we left behind
And many to come

Fire
Elizabeth P Jun 2013
So beautiful
So deadly
So graceful
So violent
Like a dark widow spider
But this same terror
Provides us heat to warm ourselves
Light to see
The world around thee
To explore the unexplored
To be who we are
We would be none of it without a flame
A soul
Fire

The Lord
Elizabeth P Jun 2013
At times He is my friend
But never my enemy

Sometimes, when life is sour
I greatly dislike Him for an hour
But He always loves me

Although I don't read His Book
As often as I should
Don't praise His name daily
Or go to church every Sunday
He still accepts me and loves me as His own

To this, all I have to say is
Thank you.

When do I yield to a gentle stop,

Love
Elizabeth P Jun 2013
I am confused
Of all this talk of love
What is it exactly?
They say
It is the beating of one's heart
and soul to another's rhythm
They say it is the need of understanding
Of acceptance
Of one individual to another.

This is love.

Poetry
Elizabeth P Jun 2013
Poetry, oh poetry
How I do enjoy thee
Why, I do not
But yet I do.
It is because of your unending grace
The outlet of my emotions
The socket of my heart
I love thee, oh poetry
I do

— The End —
