LOVE
EdnaLim Dec 2012
Love was a fleeing thought;
It was something that could not be sought.

At teens, there was irrational love.
With time on our side, it was easy to stay on the peak of the curve.

Come early twenties and life started to get busy.
There's work, commitments and many responsibilities.

Love then took on a new meaning.
Amidst the passion and occassional sparkles igniting,
People were also looking for sustainability.

'Date for your future', the older ones quipped.
'Make effort! You harvest what you reap!'

So once again, we started wondering
About this love in our life that has been evolving.

That what would it finally be?
A fire burning desire or that glowing warmth within?

Then you came along and I found love
And of no other purpose does love serve -

to bring two people in this world together,
to love and protect each other, as they bring life to the next level.

Keeping a distance

I could not deal with your existence

You were as I remembered;

Strong and abled.

You were the flower that withstood storms,

The nightingale that sung the loveliest songs.

But you no longer could bend without breaking,

or sing without choking

What is left is a life of struggling,

a body that is slowly crumbling.

Refusing to accept reality,

I tried denying life's cruelty.

Then I touched you,

and felt the emotions I tried to seal

Gushing out in waves,

tears rolling down my face.

Finally, it dawned on me

that it is time to accept life as it is

To stop living in denial,

And accept life's trial.

And trust that God will give you comfort,

while I keep you happy with all my effort.

When the day comes and you have to go

Deep down, I will know

That we have walked through this together,

and that is all that matters.

We fell, for what was thought to be Love.

We held, on to what was thought to be Hope.

The Days went into Months and the Months went into Years.

We even lost count of those pages in the book of Promises we dogeared.

Those summerdays we spent traipsing in the sun

and the starless nights spent watching life slowing down in motion.

All these time we shared and get involved in each other's emotions,

The Youth we spent consumed wondering about our actions and reactions.

The carefree times lovers should have were filled with paranoia,

Even Freedom was robbed by another person's act of denial!

Disappointment and Hurt, tears and Sadness;

the desperate pleadings of the Heart were taken and thrown into the wilderness.

The bank of tears has dried up, the Heart has gone weak.

The Mind stopped working and the Body has lost its Spirit.

Finally, it is time to say goodbye.

So goodbye, goodbye. I end this with a sigh
