Missing Idol
Dysphorism Sep 2014
I had only been ‘round
for a year or so
before you said you had to go.
I learnt how to talk, read and draw
but they were all things you never saw.

You cut me open, like a blade to the wrist
You emptied me out,
Leaving behind only the dampness of sorrow and regret.
The blood drained and my body weakened
Each breathe becoming harder to inhale
Each mouthful harder to swallow
Each step as light as a ballerina’s
I was cautious, careful
not to fall back into the trap of your arms again

In a bathtub without
water and a lock
on the door,
we will
laugh and share
secrets we’ve never
shared before.
