Pepper
Dylan Mallard Apr 2014
Life is a pepper grinder
We all start out as a plant
We grow and grow
Until we have withered
Again and again
We are picked and gathered
Put into the grinder
We add to the hot steaming soup
Of someone we'll never know

Untitled
Dylan Mallard Apr 2014
Long dead grass pulling at me like hundreds of slender fingers
A dead tree standing between them, hanging low
Every day its branches get closer to the ground
Straining and groaning
Around it
There is life
Birds chirping, moss growing
Death is never the end
They will be born
Again

Memory
Dylan Mallard Apr 2014
I don't know when you passed from a person
To a memory
I remember you
But do you remember me?

The time we spent could've been a lie
Looking back, why did I try?
Was I the darkness that I felt at night?
Was it wrong what I felt on sight?
I wish I could ask if you remember me
But you are just a memory.
