I Remember You
Donna Sheppard May 2014
Yes, I remember you!
Walking away without a sound
While on the other side of the galaxy
A star ten times larger than our sun
Imploded and vanished forever

Yes, I remember you!
And my feeling the chill
Of that prophetic death
Arrows poisoned by shards of ice
Freezing my soul

Yes, I remember you!
And  a heart that broke
With no one to hear it
Echoing endlessly between
The edges of forlorn galaxies;

Beating like an unrepentant
Sinner’s soul against the walls
Of Purgatory so that it might yet
Be blessed with one last glimpse
Of leftover heaven

Yes, I remember you
Disappearing like snowflakes
Swallowed by a pool of lukewarm water

Yes, I remember you
Vanishing like the sun
swallowed by angry thunderclouds
Between strikes of lightning

Yes, I remember you!
And the silence you wrapped yourself in
To protect you from us

Yes, I remember you!
And the three months
Of my undoing
That followed in the waste
Of your leaving

Yes, I remember you!
Like land remembers a tsunami
Like a soldier remembers war
Like a mother remembers a child
Taken from her against her will

Yes, I remember you!

Goodbye is the saddest Word
Donna Sheppard May 2014
You’ll never convince me
You’re afraid of my wrath
When what I know is
You’re afraid of choosing
Our predestined path

Always wanting but afraid of more
Always denying what you refuse to see
You fear yourself; the awesome power
Of what you might still yet be  . . .
Not me, my man, not me.

Who makes you
Keep paying the cost
That sends you running back
Like a *******
Cutting her loss

Forever cursed by your thirst
Wanting that elusive something
You continue you seek . . .
Hard climbing unable to find
The perfect peak

You believe your voice
Will find what you seek
Why then do you sing
with tears of sorrow
Running down your cheek

You still convince your mirror
As you’ve done before
By breathing substance
Into shadows
That follow you
Like a dedicated *****

Who dances circles ‘round your past
Who wrote the script with you miscast
Lord Robert . . . . I think not
Court Jester better fits the plot

You assume you’d offered me something new
Like an exotic spice added to your secret stew
How much of that stew is a repetition
Spoonfuls of hope you spoon fed me too?

Circling around yourself
A dance you’ve done before
Giving substance to shadows
Always wanting but afraid
To accept more . . .

Soon you know I must leave
To save myself . . .
I can’t afford to keep looking behind
I didn’t set out to crucify your mind

Words from me to you were given a voice
Call it heaven’s intervention
Spiked with loving intention
Believe me, I wasn't left a choice

Grow some wings
Dare to fly .  .  .
'Cuz the saddest word
Your soul keeps hearing
Is your repeating
The word 'Goodbye'

Me Me Me Me
Donna Sheppard Jun 2013
You stimulate me . . .
You captivate me . . .
I exist just to kiss you
Good Lord how I miss you

Crave the way you need me
Crave the way you feed me
You infatuate and haunt me
****** my mind and taunt me

You're the man
Who's up'd my game
Laid me bare, tattooed my frame
Seared my flesh with sticky lips
Changed my life, re-wrote my scripts

You're more than a strong addiction
You are my main affliction
You electrify and rock me
Your kisses jolt and shock me

Hey baby I'm not complaining
Loved our **** spring training
Only problem I'm perceiving
Hate your absence; hate our leaving!

Home without you isn't pretty
Matter of fact it's just plain ******
Rather have you here beside me
To love me, kiss me, satisfy me

This love struck little rhyme of mine
Written just to past the time
Is praying that you feel the same
'Cuz you're the match that lights my flame

It's us and we this poem's about
(Powered by our three week drought)
Not me;  a word that's paid its dues
Of missing love and missing clues

Us and We and ours will be
Yours and Mine and Ours to see
Our love, our faith, our trust the key
To making love eternally

I wonder
Donna Sheppard Jun 2013
I WONDER  (June 7th, 20013)
Written by Donna Sheppard

(Dedicated to: Robert, my muse,
my confidante, my friend, my love)

I wonder
if you feel my truth
In the poems
I write for you

Eyes wide shut
Against the night
I wonder if you feel me
Transfixed (and transported)
By your songs

I wonder if you feel
A longing for some
Midday delight . . .
Or a midnight date
With the stars
On a night unencumbered
By the weight of the moon

I wonder if you feel
My endless kisses
My fingers intertwined
In yours . . .

The weight
Of my body
Spooning
With satisfaction
Against your back

I wonder if you feel
The wonder of our
Hearts expanding
Across the geography
That separates us

I wonder if you feel
The wonder
Of our home
Away from home

Searching for Ricardo
Donna Sheppard Dec 2012
Miss you when the sun shows up
Miss you when it's time to sup
Miss you when I take a walk
Miss you when I want to talk
Miss you all around the clock
Miss you when it's time to rock!

Miss your body in my bed
Miss you ******* with my head

Why is it, I keep asking . . . Why?
It's so dam hard to say good bye .  . .
Even just for 10 short days
Of missing movies, meals and plays . . .

Then The answer rings out clear
It's Christmas time; a time for cheer!
A time to sing; to share a beer,
A time to draw your loved one near.

And therein lies my problem dear
The answer ringing loud and clear

You're far away; at least a day
I wish you'd come; I wish you'd stay
But wishing isn't my forte

Cuz dreams are dreams
That cut the air
With tears and fears
That see their share

Of wanting things
That are not there
This began as a funny poem that quickly turned into a pity party of one

— The End —
