He entered this world but to be deprived
Through conscious mind as a twinless twin;
A child then teen driven with mother's pride
To defeat daily taunting and chagrin.
His character mold based on poverty
Provided persuasion by song and verse;
He revealed true meaning of liberty
While elite declared he a wicked curse.

Modern lifestyle assured he'd not bypass
Drug induced pain and sinful temptations;
But with early death, he seemed to amass
Rightful honour and esteemed ovations.

His words should be played on neon marquee,
“I'm just the singer who wanted to be.”
I am a real Elvis fan.  I love to listen to him sing and I wrote this poem in his honour about ten years ago.

Free America
Free America
let it be known
there's hope for youth;
we'll not give in
we'll find the truth
Free America

Show the world
What our young can do
Let the benevolent dreams
Come true
If we only had our way
If we only could have our say
Free America

Here's to you
Free America
that's who we are
Free America

Looks like tomorrow will be
Another day of loneliness for me,
We've danced the night till dim
But my darling I'm not him,
And life has dragged me along
Into the world of your new song.

So play it the way you must
However I'll not return words of trust,
For you have made it clear
That you'd rather have him here,
And I am just a tag-a-long
Fixed in the world of your new song.

Seated round open fire,
Treated by song and spirit,
We watched the flying flames
Disappear into the night.
Silent sparks rose and drifted,
Content with life so abrupt,
Beckoning us to view
Their dying moment of light.

Who is it that talks to me
On a daily and steady basis?
Who is it that puts ideas in my head
And offers me the strength to see them through?

I believe it's my spirit
My true soul mate, my intimate twin,
And when it blends into my consciousness
Makes me understand there's a God in me.

Today was not the norm,
I thought in ways so adrift
That today would go in
My calendar as an "Igot"

I got today to thank for
A connection with a special friend
I got today as a writer
By choosing words to keep the trend.

It took but one look
To stop me in time;
It was as if fate
Rang a special chime
To alert my heart
That true love was here,
My eyes locked on you
Shedding a small tear,
I was so happy
Just knowing at last
You'd help me forget
The loves in my past.

What do you say to a man
Who has lost his heart
Because his dream of life
Was so torn apart.

What do you say to the flowers
Whose petals and odor so sweet
Left a man begging love
At her feet.

What do you say to the world
Where love and peace are so void
Of any connection with religion.

What do you say to the political king
Who rules with the mighty button
And dreams of everyone knowing
Who is Boss.

Well, I probably say zilch
And go my walkabout way,
Waiting until the day I will
Mark an x within a circle
And try again.
