Wary I

I looked her weary way
She saw my wary eyes
She turned away …

Cut
At some point there was a point
That point is no longer sharp
The blade that once pierced my mind
Now places its cold edge against my heart

Your Birthday
don adcock Mar 2014
You are the white and the black of me
We are all the colors in between
The white is frosting
The black is cake
The colors in between are the candles
We are the flame
Make a wish

Brew
don adcock Jan 2014
As my mind started to kick-in I got a whiff
The smell of a rich Columbia brew
My Grandpa was a Jew and so was my Mom
My Mom married a Protestant
A good brew

Up There
don adcock Jan 2014
Once there was this guy
He sat around; He stood-up and even walked around
Sometimes when the sun started to set, he would hitch a ride
He would go where most people would not dare
He did not have much hair
Well you see … that was only up there
In the places he went … there were no combs
And he had no hair

Was all bright and warm
Ran around a cold pond
A structure of knowledge
It had all the ground
Hope abounds …
for a few coins in the pond
I (WE) habituated a few clicks away
At lust we think that way
Cast a line in looking for a strike
A hit on this and then a hit on that
Got a bite … it wiggled off
Some where too big to reel in
Did I use the right bait
Maybe I would look better in a hat

Breath
don adcock Nov 2013
What does it feel like to feel old
Does it feel out of touch
Does it make us bitter
I wonder if I ever felt too young
I could have made a difference?
I could ramble on about things that then mattered
But, I don't remember
I do, remember, how to take a breath

Against my Cheek
don adcock Nov 2013
It has been a while since I touched you
I have had this terrible head that aches
The birds are now singing
The light was trying to make its point
I reached for a new lump of comfort
I keep two
One is fresh and smells so good
The other is not bad
Then I felt your face

Reflection
don adcock Oct 2013
I remember hearing about a way of writing a poem that was called free verse
Not so much about a poem as it was a style
I am pretty sure you weren't suppose to use punctuation and all that stuff … you were just supposed to ... type or write and let it flow ....
I just got up from my writing
Looked in the mirror

Good for Me
don adcock Oct 2013
Is this the worst that can happen to me
I think back
I think not
It is the worst that can happen to you
I think of you then I think of me
This is really bad for you
Isn't it
Isn’t it
I am good for you … right
Right
Right
Right
I am good for me
Right
Right
Right
I know you are good for you
Right

Pillow
don adcock Oct 2013
Will it be dark or will it be light
Sounds of life surround me
Been here for a while
I cannot move
I hear the splash of a puddle outside
My room turns to a cool gray
I drift to there and then back here
I am thankful for my pillow

Others**
We sit with ourselves
We are who we are
We talk to others
We talk to ourselves
We need to remember
We need the others
We can’t find others
We can find ourselves

Senses

What was that … I open my eyes and look for something
Something I think I might have heard
Sounds fill my ears my mind
Visions are abundant
I hear myself breathe
I think it was me
Sounds … I may never touch hear or see
Wait … I smell bacon

He just told her something
It was a lie
And you know I don't lie
She said yes you do
He said but not to a friend

What is cancer like
I just wondered if it was like a vitamin burp
Or something thing that just tasted wrong
Maybe like a song that runs through your mind
Or when you wake up with your throat raw
Might be the smell from ***
Maybe it tastes like a pizza with bad toppings
Or not me

The morning is bright … the air is clear
The midday is here… it is hot
The afternoon just moved in … air is here again
The sun just set … I hear a whisper

Gone Fishing **
You (I) have been here before
Gliding with no one near
Dipped down low,,, saw the cold darkness
Started to feel the warm again
Saw the ripples on the surface
Carelessness once again
In a moment I took a strike
Found it again
****** it in
Tried to bring you in
I am throwing you back
It is a big sea

I left that area
I left the place over there
I left it to the ones I adore to figure out
I am still waiting
I may be me
I may be what they need to be
