I take humour very seriously too.
I would expect nothing less from a bespectacled exception.
I would expect something more from a commuter.
We're taught to ride the trains, to expel our exhaustion.
There was no question.
Our dreams let spill our intentions.
The world is, the world is, love and life are deep.
Now sleep.
sleeps.

I don’t need yo' ******* light
I can take care of that on my own
All I need is a candle and a wick
Keep that bulb **** outta my home

I don’t need no x-ray vision,
and I say that with gumption
***** you Scheele, I’ll stick with steel
So you know what? **** Tungsten

in the hours of circulating darkness

meandering the streets of my mind
inside the walls of a staple
sadly not built in the realm of
satisfying fantasies.

believing that more remains
under the stars that house
infallible creatures determining the
lackluster era in which they
dwell cannot be all there is
in this undiscovered,
newly founded land of
gallant nonconformity

forever dancing a brilliant quiver
orbiting the undeniable
refuge devised if only
to be safe from the world for a
single day more

“–eacher’s first time on our show, the preacher’s first time on public access. He’s here to talk to you about our history, and forgotten past. We welcome The Hermit of Marlowe, for our Sermon of the Week. All Rise.”

Influenced by the Worth of Words
I took a trip to write in France
I have come back to now inter
The Spirit of Romance:

There once were times of eloquence
When words were bought and sold in pence
Their quantity was so immense
But what have you all done?

Uphold the discourse, that you swore
‘though from her bitter grasp you tore
The beauty that you must abhor
Where has her meaning gone?

The time is nigh, you must repent
Begin your verbalized dissents
We gave words death in cent and tense
What happens at the dawn?

What does our future have in store?
A zeitgeist’s language unadorned
The pen is mightier than the sword,
But what about the gun?

O there is a blessing in this gentle breeze
That of a childhood friend
returning for a gentle kiss on the cheek
O, sweet Mary, how did you bear the fruit of thy womb
so that the winds of change may spread it far
far and wide, far from a sparse city, so that
a pilgrim may find freedom.
Free as a bird, free from a bird, the sins of his past forgotten
Not forgotten, but atoned for, O Friend
What shall be my harbour, so that the winds
the winds may take me from this place,
through a clear stream of conscious reckoning,
of conscious wreckoning avoided
the heavy weight of a weary day, bears its fruit
bears it burden, a burden burthen of a now flightless bird
unable, disabled to the winds, to wind and soar
and now, upon this water, carried by the same winds
The earth is all before me, my journey is endless
Immortally mystified at its own liberty.
I remember this day, and the gentle zephyrs that brought me home
‘Twas Autumn, the waters were clear and placid
I remember this day, as the gentle vortex kissed my cheek, stroked my hair

“Yo yo yo, welcome back to the Def Poetry Slam. Comin’ up on da stage next we got two favorites who certainly ain’t a favorite of each other… na mean, na mean? They’re both hear reppin’ the London, so give a big round for ‘Lord Bye-Bye, and Johnny Cleats’…
Yeah, yeah. You guys know the rules… get to it. Bye-Bye, you’re startin’”

He walks in Beauty, like the dawn
whose bright and crimson sun alights
So all of those around him fawn
and follow him into the night
Now I know why my friend Trelawn
does envy him with all his might

Oh no, I, am so sorry,
My mind has come to function
all of this, you see, is me
And while he’s got some gumption
aesthetic he, but hungry, Keats
only talent for consumption

“Ohhhhh! No he didn’t, no he di-in’t! Yo Cleats, get some traction on this and tear him away.”

Standing aloof in giant ignorance,
staring down from atop an ivory stool
Your title, then, will keep them in your dance
and little else, you shallow-swimming fool

You see, My Lord, and that is all you pageant
as simple work as that does a flask
My words, instead, are all that I imagine
Of that, My Lord, mine is the hardest task

“Ohhh… well Round One’s gotta go to Bye-Bye, the audience has chosen, but… John? Johnny Boy? Hello? Where lies you, English Poet?… Can it be?… Can it be?… Ladies and Gentlemen… I think we have our first official **** in the ring. Must’ve been something we said. I guess it’s over. Bye-Bye… you got anything to say on your victory?”

So, we’ll go no more a roving
as our battle was cut short
Just as I thought you would be atoning
for your lack of literary tort

“–ll now and you can win a Dream vacation, with the Artist himself! For those of you just tuning in, this is yet another hit by Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Sam Cole, on MTVChristmas. Here’s The Slime of the Ancient Caroler”

♫ I am an iamb man, I am
and so it’s come to haunt
such will be the meter for
My Christmastime account

I do beg you not give haste
I know you’re on your way
But I’ll be quick, as not to waste
a minute of your day

the party, it can wait young sir
as all good things will do
my warning comes for times of myrrh
and a frankincent or two

Sit back or stand, relax your hands
now dawning is the time
when you must beware, of songs in air
of Ancient Car’lers slime

It all starts at first December
When she haunts the streets at night
Watching dying embers
Release their doom-ed light

That’s when she comes, dear little ones
bearing candles of her own
she brings the light, to cull your fright
from darkness cold as stone

sometimes her many fiends come with
to throw you off your guard
and though you’ll think “not dangerous”
that’s when the music starts

And O the ringing, singing bells
will melt into your soul
and heat the morning frost untill
your soul again is whole

but just when you release all of
the tensions from your mind
once upon a song of love
the devil hid behind

the devil with his might did peek
to celebrate your loss
that’s when you’ll see a beak, and he
the winged albatross

oh curs-ed you, ye albatross
hadst not thou’st had thy will?
This is time to wear the cross
why do you haunt me still?

Go now, children, beware the slime
be merry and be well
earmuffs now, avoid the rime
and singing Christabells ♫

"Welcome back to Story Hour on PBS. Today we have a very special guest, who’s going to read us a very special story. Do you kids know anything about Greek Mythology? No? Well, you’re gonna learn some today. Everyone… say “Hello” to Bill."

“Now, children… he can’t hear you…”
“HIIII BILLL–”

Hear the voice of the Bard!
Who Present, Past, & Future sees;
I am the Dean
of Cosmic Beans
That grow to poetrees

Then every man will ever clime
to he that sits upon
atop this rhyme
this mythic vine
Dwells the giant Albion

The giant of the sees,
his jealousea and fierce
bid him to seize
an Odyssey
assisted by a Circe

Circe, in play, did then, inturn
the shipsmen of his Highness
and with a Feast
did tern to beasts
not one of them a tygress

As Circe distracted with the beasts
Did Albion then turn
He stole the Fleece
from Circe’s niece
and left it to the terns

The terns, in turn, interned at sea
did little to digress
flew fleece of ram
into the hands
of swift and mighty Tigris

From Milton’s tale of sim’lar tree
that of Eve and Adam
With fearful sea
and symmetree
The Tyger ate The Lamb

“The Tiger ate the Lamb?”

Well hello, all, I’m your maestro ceremonious
they call me Lokonious, purveyor of the odious
so sit back, relax, and celebrate the… atonalness?

A: Andante con fuoco
We’re goin’ a cappella so let me say first
your style’s ba-roke, now let’s get on with the verse
you’re all up in the scale with a falsetto pitch
hittin’ soprano like a castrato *****!
my mind is sharp, while you’re stuck outta key
my rhythm’s all natural, you can’t find a beat
you need some help ’cause you’re out on your own
find that ****** on a subway, the metro-nome

B: Allegro con brio
throw down the fermata and hold up a minute
your ****’s a cacophony, no way to spin it
and son, i ain’t broke, my style’s all classical
you just can’t register that my words are magical
I spit rhymes in fantasy, can’t you see that you’re beat?
And they thought an allegro was unfit for elegy

A: Moderato col legno
well as for your girl, it may sound corny
the ***** loves my brass ’cause she’s: oh so *****
dispel your illusion, i got one more
your girl’s like a crime show… easy to score

B: Allegretto grazioso
your intellect is minor and your insults are bassless
your composition’s hardly a harmony: graceless
your cymbalism’s trite, and your motif’s unknown
an unfocused opus full of dissonant drones

A: Affrettando agitato
get out my face with your unnatural rap
you spit cold air and your lyrics are flat
you’ve got no harm while my canon’s a gat
so work on your refrain, ‘fore I bust da cap-OOOHHHHH

B: Coda
pull your weak crap, ’cause you’re outta your mode
such imperfect rhymes that we’re calling a cod-a
no time for the fanfare, you’re trying my patience
an end to your requiem, bring out the cadence

So that’s their story, best not get involved
their fight’s an augmented fourth: difficult to resolve

— The End —
