9/11 what it is really about
Destiny Hendrick Sep 2013
The tears that fell on that day
Mountain of ash
Sky of smoke
Grey

The ones who were lost
The ones who lost them
Even the stars cry
Black

Hatred
Hurt
Sadness
Fear
Confusion
A world of emotion

But every action has an equal and
Opposite reaction

Hatred turned to empathy
Sadness turned to hope
Through fear many showed courage
Bravery
Confusion became acceptance

And though the deepness of hurt
Could never be lightened
Defiance
Refusal to give victory emerged
Through the ashes

What was meant to tear us apart
Worked...at first
Until it bound is together tighter than before

Always remember
Courage
Sacrifice
Love
Kindness
That is what this day is about.

Lost
Destiny Hendrick Sep 2013
A lost soul wandering in the wilderness
For a thousand years
Searching, searching
But if you were to ask,
"what are you looking for?"
They would reply with one of two things
If you were a stranger they might say
"Something lost."
But if you were a friend
One they decided to let into their
High-walled fortress they have built
Only for their protection
They might reply
"I don't know how it looks or feels or tastes, but I do know when I find it I will know it is what I have always wished for."

I don't know what to say
Destiny Hendrick Sep 2013
I don't know what to say to you
Because when I stand by you a few inches away
A million and one words come to my mind
They choke me

I try to speak but no sound comes
And so I stand here
Wanting To say a million things
But instead remaining in silence
So instead of saying a million things
Ill just hug you

Ill wrap my arms around your neck
In hopes that through this action
All the things I've wanted to say
Will be exhaled into the air

And you will knowingly wrap your arms
Around my waist and pull me in closer
Letting my chin rest on your shoulder
All my heaviness will fade
And everything will be okay
Through  your embrace

Monsters and mirrors
Destiny Hendrick Sep 2013
There is a monster living in my mirror
Be careful
Look away
You are not allowed to see

I approach it carefully
But I have to see
To make sure it's still there
Not coming after me

I have to remember its face
Just in case
I should see it elsewhere

I glance in my mirror
And it begins to scream
And scream
Awful things at me

I look away plug my ears
Trying not to hear
But it's got into my mind
Not just my ears
Or my mirror

Alone
Destiny Hendrick Aug 2013
There is something peaceful about being alone
Allowed to sit with nothing but your own thoughts
Doing nothing only taking a moment to relax
Close your eyes take a deep breath
Let your mind wander to infinity
Relive good memories
Bit your lip as the bad make their reappearance
Contemplate the reason for making particular decisions
Imagine
Do not be bothered by anyone else making noise
Blah blah blah
Going on and on and on
About things you have no interest in
And go off to be alone
And find peace in the nothingness
That's all your own

For Teri
Destiny Hendrick Aug 2013
Brown eyes
Everyone says they're dull
But yours shine so bright

Braces
Everyone is dying to get them off
But your smile lights up the room anyway

You don't know
But my friend
You are so beautiful

Kind
An oh so caring
Always polite
Your daddy raised you right

You are no stranger to pain
An with that power
You bring us happiness

You are so loved
And if you were to forget this
It would be a crime

Never ever forget
How special you are
To all of us

And when you feel like nothing
Remember god isn't finished with you
And neither are we.
I wrote this poem to my best friend Teri because she loves my poems. When I read it to her she almost cried.

A Day Continued.
Destiny Hendrick Aug 2013
The colorless sunrise begins
Dawn
Your eyes blink open, tired
But they know its time to awaken

The sun is hightest in the sky
Noontime
Everyone is rushing, bustling
Too busy to be bothered

The sky is mild orange and pale pink
Sunset
Soft breeze blowing, calming
But no one stops to see its beauty

Black sky sprinkled with lights and the white moon.
Midnight
Hush falls over the city lights, silence
But all are at rest no one awake to see.

Beauty in little things
Destiny Hendrick Aug 2013
You never know what beauty holds until you see it in little things
The soft curve of someone's chin
The clean scent in the room after you shower
The warmth of your blanket as it hugs you while trying to fall asleep

You never know what beauty holds until you see it in little things
A soft breeze blowing as you walk down an old and familiar street
The piano in the background of your favorite song
The mouth-watering scent of someone making your favorite breakfast when you wake up
The peace of being in the sun with a hint of sweet scent from the flowers

So the next time you think you know all the world has to offer, look for the beauty in the little things.

The Doctor's companions
Destiny Hendrick Aug 2013
There once was a man I met
He took my hand
And whispered run

There once was a man I met
He saved my girlfriends life
And took her off to have some fun

There once was a man I met
He captured me in his blue box
And showed me the creation of the world

There once was a man I met
He had two hearts
And kept me alive on the moon

There once was a man I met twice
He saved the world once again
And took me away to see the stars

There once was a man I met
He came when I was a child in bed
And I waited for him to return

There one was a man I met
He stole away my bride
And eventually me as well

There once was a man I met
He took me away in his box
And told me I was impossible

There once was a man I knew
He was my sweetie
And he saved me eternally

There once was a man I know
He stole me away
And cared for me until our deaths

There once was a man
He  fought wars
And saved worlds
He saved lives
And destroyed them
He was always kind
And very lonely

He was me

I do not understand
Destiny Hendrick Aug 2013
Why do you teach me of wonderful things and then place me in a box ?

Why do you see my dreams and ****** them away?

Why do you see my imagination and tell me to quiet it?

Why do you tell me I should not believe in that which I cannot see?

What is so wrong with belief in beautiful things?

What is wrong about wanting them to be true?

I do not understand the thinking of this world.

So alone
Destiny Hendrick Aug 2013
He is so alone in his mind
Empty
He cries out
No one hears the sound
There is no one with him
No one can enter his heart
Cloaked in blackness
He can't even scream anymore
Enveloped in hurt
No one sees
He stares away from them
A fake smile perches on his face
He wants happiness for everyone
He sees their troubles
He helps however he can
He cares for them
He is always there for them
But who is there for him?
Who will help him?
Who will hold him?
Who will wipe his tears?
Who will keep his demons away?
No one
How can he tell them?
It will only worry them
They have enough to think about
Why should they have to lift his troubles as well as their own?
So he keeps quiet
Plasters a smile on his face
They never notice
So he stays alone in his black box
Finally one day he is angry with himself
All he wants is to make himself guilty
They whisper at him
He sees the metal
It shines so bright in his dark room
He takes it to his skin
Instantly he isn't alone
He isn't angry
He isn't empty
He isn't scared
This feeling is so savory, so sweet
How can he let it go?
Again
Again
Again
They scream now
I want more!
I want more!
I want more!
Until marks cover his skin
So alone in his mind
So empty
He cries out
But no one hears the sound

I long for
Destiny Hendrick Aug 2013
I long for a world
A world of dragons and castles
Knights and swords
A world full of impossible things

Instead I am here
Stuck in a boring reality
Hunger and thirst
Hatred and mourning

I wish on stars
I throw coins in fountains
I plead and plead
I beg and I pray
Someone please come take me away

I'm lost and confused
I feel out of place
As if for me this life is wrong
I've been placed here, but I do not belong

Where are we?
What are we doing?
Why are we placed here?

We have been plucked from ourselves
From our reality
From our homes

We have been given no instructions and fed with lies
You must fit in
You must be normal

We have been given new lives should we want them or not
Here you are
Here you go

And now here we stay
In this boring reality
Put in a box
Told our thinking must stay within

Let me out
Let me out
Let me out

I don't belong
