I am serene
David Sjolander Nov 2010
I am serene
I feel as though I've finally found
That special formula in life
For which I have been searching...

I am serene
I feel spirtually aware
I am connected
I am at peace...

I am serene
At last, my life is coming together
As it was supposed to
From the beginning...

I am serene
All is right with my world
I've arrived at a point
at which I am feeling satisfied...

I am serene
At last, I have found my truth
The truth that I have sought
I am serene.

To The Adventurers
David Sjolander Nov 2010
You began as a dream
Dreamt by leaders with vision
Evolving to surpass
All of man's wildest ambition...

With adventurous men
Like Shepherd and Glenn
You stubbornly strove
To prove, once again
Beyond any doubt
That bounderies could be broken...

Despite mishap and fire
Alas, you did inspire
A generation to dream...

From Mercury to Apollo
The world, it did follow
Your steady pace
To Tranquility Base...

Via Viking and Voyager
Your efforts did prove
That exploration of the universe
Was well on the move...

To Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune...
You tenaciously endeavored
To, your accomplishments, festoon...

Your progress was sure
As you strove to endure
The incessent chatter
Of the grossly short-sighted
Their nonsense did clatter
Proving they were poorly enlightened...

With untold discoveries
Like non-stick surfaces and airtight seals
Through your numerous breakthroughs
You've shown us how it feels
To live better...

From Columbia to Hubbel
You've saved us great trouble
In our daily lives...

With your Space Station mission
You've shown the same vision
And, continue to lead in gaining cognition
Of our universe...

Lead on, great adventurers
Lead on.

The Shores of Lake Michigan
David Sjolander Nov 2010
As I, in the forest, stood
Pondering nature's wonder
I peered up at the canopy, so lush and green
Of which, I dallied under...

Hopping through the foliage
That stretched across the ground
A chipmunk hurried to a log
And alit upon it with a bound...

Underneath the stratosphere
High atop a tree
A large black crow, I did hear
Calling down to me...

Proceeding to the beach, so warm
My feet, prints in the sand, did form
As I dug in with my toes,
I felt the sun, so warm
My mood was of repose...

Seagulls, high above, did play
Hunting, calling, all the day
Upon the evening tide
Bubbles of white foam did ride...

The summer felt just like a friend
Although, I knew, it, soon, would end
My visit to this paradise
Concluded in a way, so nice...

I knew I would return, again
To the shores of Lake Michigan.

The Lawn
David Sjolander Nov 2010
Like blades of grass
Each is unique
Despite differences in appearance
Each does, important words, speak...

The assembly of the parts
Makes up a whole object
Whose abilities reach beyond
What one might expect
By observing each part seperately...

Thus, the lawn health and pleasing
Tensions and concerns, easing
Each blade performs its duty
To enhance the lawn's enduring beauty...

Each of us in the human breed
Helps fulfill the every need
Of a world of unique individuals
Finding great residuals
Like the lawn.

A Priceless Asset
David Sjolander Nov 2010
A true friend is one who is always on your side
One in whom you can confide
One who will never you betray
One who is still with you at the end of the day...

A true friend helps you in your hour of need
A true friend is of a special breed
A true friend does not, upon your sorrow, feed...

Such a person is, in our world, rare
A person with whom you can lay your feelings bare
A person who, of you, always speaks well
A person who would never your honor, sell
A person, to whom you're high on the list
A person who, upon your welfare, does insist
A person who, never doth you smite
A person who is loyal both day and night...

A true friend is a priceless asset.

My Favorite Season
David Sjolander Oct 2010
She is beautiful
She is blustery
She brings pleasant scents and delicious tastes...

She comes every year
Her captivating colors
Her exciting sports...

Her cool breath comforts me...
Her array of hues enchants me...
Her wonderful perfume entices me...

She is unique
No other is her equal...

She is autumn.

A Greener Way
David Sjolander Nov 2010
Some say that they bet
That by using the net
Your literacy, you can forget...

However, if I might
Let me give some insight
That, by using a website,
You read and you write
And, it's ecologically green
to write on your screen...

So, the next time that you
Hear them speak of I.Q.
You can reply to them, yet
That, by using the net
You're helping the bees
By saving their trees...

With no paper swarming
There's less global warming
And, you're gaining education
From a source of information
Which is virtually limitless.

Heaven
David Sjolander Oct 2010
The day dawns...
Leaves blanket the lawns...
Fresh coffee emits it fragrant scent...
One wonders where the nighttime went...

A white gauze covers the sky...
A reminder that winter is neigh...
Whatever the cause...
It brings to me pause...

My love will soon alight...
Displaying her broad smile, so bright...
I am moved by her boundless love...
As though she had come directly from above...

When she enters in...
I know that her joy is geniune...
Her docile air...
Her lovely hair...
Her bright glee...
At meeting me...

These are all warming to my heart...
As the new day we start...
Her sincere grattitude...
Improves my attitude...
Toward the world...

I am in Heaven.

Majesty
David Sjolander Nov 2010
I wonder at your beauty, strong
Your height tells me you've stood there long
Your beauty protrudes from limbs so grand
Providing cover where you stand...

You glisten in the morning dew
As the sky does lighten
A mother robin does joins you, true
Upon your sturdy arms, which, do her brighten...

Your provide such shelter
From the helter-skelter
For creatures, such as squirrels and possums
Above the wildflowers' lovely blossoms...

Now and then, a cat does race
To, frantically, its quarry chase
And, bird do find your crown
Helpful as they look around...

Sometime ago, you were but a shoot
Which could have been stomped underfoot
Now, you show your majesty
By having grown into a tree.
