your words are like soft pattering rain
falling upon multiple consciences
on the day after nasty weather
and the predicted heat wave

your words drip from invisible funnels
and sweeten the air that we breathe
verily  verily you're the voice of doom
lulling our beings into a deep slumber

there will be pangs and passions galore
in this world of moneyed automatons
who smack their pale but avaricious lips
that spew stale drivel from dead hearts

lo and behold the bell tolls indeed
and we stagger forth in compliant unison
and wait for the confessions of the age
words about how we slid into turmoil

swallowed in an abyss of sticky froth in bubbles
and a cacophony of dismal largo choruses
that say it's time for another thorough round-up
as the skies darken and the rain comes down in sheets

forever a curse and a blessing unavoidably certain
so friend and brother from another place and another time
let's do this thing together and crush this flea that won't flee
generous givers are beckoning frantically from the horizon

her glossy lips
a poisoned chalice
and her eyes
a flaming brand
to sear the heart
she shot toxin
into his slain ego
and he groaned
a dirge folorn
till its shreds
fled in the wind
and the swirl in her subsided
but she saved the best for last
you don't get it, do you?
in the country of my heart
you're dead and buried
she said
ground to dust under my heel
you don't get it, do you?
he felt a great darkness creeping in
and knew his day was done
as was hers, her ire being spent
with a hypnotic smile
and a darting red tongue
she gave him the kiss of death
and eased him into oblivion
without so much as a qualm

When mother was there I splashed about
and in glee and wonderment had bout after bout
of childish pranks and tomfoolery in the dirt and dust
But she didn't mind and rewarded me with loving smiles

One day Mother went to this place from which mothers never return
but this was hidden to me in my world where mothers never die
The new mother was full of ire and venom and had a lashing tongue
I learned the hard way why you never go where your mother isn't

you're the  tempting thing my father forbade
the very same that Mother bade me forsake
but when did i ever listen to anyone's entreaty?

you're that thing with the sweet ephemeral scent
that wafts into my brain and dares me to ignore it
but when did i ever turn away from your honey?

you're that indefinable thing floating in my heart
teasing my consciousness with things rare and infectious
when did i ever fail to to take the bait when you dangled it?

now dear sweet never-forsaken snare lying in wait
in that always not so apparent apparition of hope
my taunting self-afflicted mirage of hallucinatory bliss

i wallow deep in life's forgotten shapes and desires
that are forever mocking me in a dance of painful fancies
and we get back to where it all started: irresistible you!

They said you were slow and languorous
That live or die 'twas all the same for you
Untutored, they were the swine before the pearls
And were ignorant of the coals that fanned your passion

I was one of the daring few that knocked at your door
The lithe girl in you  was always there for the seeing
You had a shape made in heaven and a smile to match
And your blithe ways said nothing mattered that much

We learned much about the body and the force of allure
We filled our gaps with information as you filled your cups
We became clumsier and more oafish as your grace peaked
But we always knew how to worship your form and beauty

The years went by and we all grew up and spread afield
Try as I did to search high and low, of you I found no trace
Yet with ease I found your pretty face in the clouds of time
And the rain wept your name and kept it showering

Now the relentless years have gone swiftly past somehow
And pretty little girls and bashful boys have grown old
Is this you with the fading sight and the tremulous voice?
'Tis no matter, I know how to bring back that lovely lass

So, no matter what, you'll always be that voluptuous beauty
I don't see your spindly legs nor mind your frequent lapses
They don't know what they missed, these modern types:
Love with the taste of spring water that bubbled out of you

Into the cupped palms of my doting heart that sang a duet
With the crescendo notes of your  ***** and the quiver
Of the enchanted world sitting upon your dancing behind
These enduring images never fade or melt away

Thus, dearest God's masterpiece, you'll always be my girl
And I the boy electrified by your articulate eloquence
Ignore them when they call you a hag and a witch
They know not the feel of the bliss that never goes away

Ever seen a dog free, tongue out panting
Style not cramped by hallucinating humans?
He's desperately intense and oh so resolute!

Look,  learn and emulate his singleness of purpose
Getting to his destination somewhere ahead is supreme
So, never you think you he knows not where he goes

In truth only the dog knows where he's going and why
Lesson from the dog: keep your own sweet counsel
In matters of import and talk after you return and are snug
