Rain Be Here to Stay
David Keagan Jul 2012
Rain, Rain go away,
is what the young kids used to say,
when all they wanted was to play,
Rain be here to stay.

Not because I want to ruin their fun,
I wouldn’t want to hurt the feelings of anyone,
I just prefer the rain than the sun,
Rain be here to stay

Am I the only one who thinks it’s soothing?
The way this storm is moving,
It seems better fitting to rent a movie,
Rain be here to stay

I love it's sound upon my rooftop,
Please God, don’t you make it stop,
It also waters the farmer’s crop,
Rain be here to stay.

Maybe I’ll enjoy a nice, long book,
don’t have to leave, I have a Nook,
I can now be lazy, I’m off the hook,
Rain be here to stay.

So call me a lover of precipitation,
and join my rain fan club with participation,
boys and girls across the nation,
Rain be here to stay

The Land of Average
David Keagan Jul 2012
Abide by the rules of the world,
Because if you don’t they’ll surely just laugh at you.
Chase nothing but the average
Do like they all do.
Even if your heart says otherwise
Forget it
Go about your average day as planned.
Head up the elevator to your confined cubicle,
Initiate work mode.
Job description: “Whipping post”
Know your role
Leave content
Make sure they buy your counterfeit smile because,
No man can afford to be jobless in the land of average.
Often those who rebel are struck down and left at the curb
Poor financially and in spirit
Quick, get home to your average marriage
Reheat your average left overs from the average restaurant you ate at last night.
Sit down on your couch
Television on.
Use your free time wisely because 6 am comes early.
View your average prime time show
Wash the day’s grime off of your body.
X** another day off your list.
You now know what a day is like in the land of average.
Zealous towards nothing but the same.
An A-B-C style poem, my first ever, about the life of a person in the Land of Average.
David Keagan Jul 2012
Darkness ensues,
is it the clouds?
or has the restless sun gone to sleep?
No stars to be found,
the city lights are to blame.
Nothing below but fast walkers and loud talkers.
Angry horns blare in a vociferous tune,
I hate traffic.
Ah, last cigarette,
I’ll buy more in the morning.
For now, I sleep.
I set my phone to silent,
I set the world to silent.
“I've read some of your modern free verse and wonder who set it free”

Lost At Sea
David Keagan Mar 2012
Why does the sun rise?
The lively shark quietly pulls me down under to a deep abyss.
Shanty shores aggravated by the upset core of endless waves.
Never command a sea.
It’ll surely command you,
With the wrath of tides and monsters down deep.
The breeze whips like a cold backlash.
Courage is an old ship,
As the SS Sea Witch proudly ventures out.
The frantic crew comes together for fortune and fame,
We sailed away as one
But return apart

Black Ice
David Keagan Mar 2012
Black Ice is the epitome of death.
The cold soul of the reaper,
laid upon the earth to pull us towards darkness.
Some slip,
others slide.
the oaf takes it’s power for granted,
experiencing the ice’s death clutch in a snowy bank.
An icy death mother nature can impose,
I scrape the remains.
Be gone torture and pain,
Memories of those who had fallen to what the eye can not see.
Not so much is this poem about ice,
but to remind a fellow of darkness unseen.
Learn from the black ice not only on the ground,
but by our actions as well.
The light will melt it’s short term effect,
and soon the birds will sing a song like the trumpets at the gates of goodness.

Laughter prevails
Misery is squashed
