Ark
David J Byars Jul 2013
Ark
An angel,
Guardian of our little
Big adventures.

A boat for
Carrying precisely two
Of every kind:

The stories
You read. The games you still play.
Auspicious one.

You create
Lego masterpieces that
I rarely see.

But I do
See an Ark.
Protecting all.
For my oldest brother.

You're a shard of broken light
That barely escaped the night.

You're that eery howling wind
In the house you're living in.

You're the ache upon your back
Reminding you what you lack.

You're a shadow of yourself
From the light of someone else.

You're a broken man inside,
Yes, humility; reside.
My journey can now begin.

I am. I do. I always have.
To self pity to to try laugh.
I guess we all do. We have to.
Drown the past and wait for the new.
Or Drown the past and drown ourselves too.

I closed that door.
Barred and barricaded it,
Left a bomb inside,
I didn’t wait to know it had
Set off.

I haven’t stopped stopping,
Staring through the small windows,
Everything blinded; myself folded.

A tornado streaming through my past,
This gush sets me free, flying uncontrollably
Somewhere else.

The more I fall, the more I find
the shards of that broken world.
I let them skewer my mind,
imagining them mended back together.

I closed that door.
Yet here I stand its way,
a silhouette.
Neither here nor there.
