Stillness and Peace
Dave Thomson Apr 2014
Hundreds of miles away
    My mother is in agony
Her mother crossing a "final threshold" into
            Stillness and Peace

My mind is drowning
    A dull deafening hum
That shuts out the world
              Boxes me in

I keep thinking
"Why isn't this affecting me more?"
Just a blank stare and a refusal
To feel, a voice inside says
               "Don't say Anything"

Right here, right now
    I am melancholy
Waiting for the call, to bring me home
To watch her get tucked in to the last bed she'll need
With her name and a nice message on the headboard
Knowing that a part of her will always be
Riding passenger in the cab of my car
The car she loved so much
Because it drives like freedom

               Mile after Mile

               Hundreds of Miles

               "Don't say Anything"

                Stillness and Peace

Spin cycle...Repeat
Dave Thomson Mar 2014
It is a cyclical motion

                                        ******* begetting *******
Who grow to regret the ******* that begat him.

Hot tears flow at midnight
Wishing that the ******* that begat him
Had prepared him for this single moment

                                            The seat belt unfastens
A click and she's gone forever
As she disintegrates out of his headlights

a repeated exercise
Dave Thomson Mar 2014
Light creeps in the window,
           waning and  waxing,
a repeated exercise at noon.

There's an out of tune piano in the corner,
sun soaked wood, the stain fading,
in a reflection of the faded music from lack of use,
it has been re-purposed, pushed to the side
                      waiting for life.

It loves the sun.
    In love with the same
which makes it rot, slowly and steadily.
A love that wanes and waxes at noon.

A repeated exercise in life.
