Coffee Shop
Danielle Brown Oct 2012
This young man walked in
Black suit and black shoes
In his left hand was a briefcase
And in his right was the news
His face seemed tense
He had a crease in his forehead
Probably thinking about his job
Who knows what he contemplated
But his eyes told a different story
They personified moonbeams
His eyes told me his soul
Was thinking about other things
His pupils were ballet dancers
That were caged in normality
His eyes did not agree
With his outer formality
Within him I saw a hungry
Beast of a lion
Within him I saw a vision
Of a fire that was dying
He was doing what was expected of him
He was conforming to them
He was doing his normal routine
Of the socialite man
But he’s so much more than that
His heart was aloof somewhere else
I watched him pay for his coffee
Take a sip
Then he left.

Euphoric visions
Frantic envisions
Body collisions
Heavy prescriptions
Enlightened by a muse that I was happily given
Unwarranted treasures on the paper was written
Psychadelic notions
Underminded by twitches
Glares of green lights flashing
In the artists’ painted trenches

Heavy prescriptions
Doses of living
Binded by ink from a tie-dye fitting
Zones flowing in and out
Lying down for the feeling
Eyes looking up
At the neon-colored ceiling
Ah, is this living
A euphoric disposition?
Defying immortality by a psychedelic existence
Back under...

To the trenches

And the heavy prescriptions

Wains and Frets
Danielle Brown Oct 2012
Twirl and contort
Shape-shift and Distort
Undeniably a misfit
To function logically in the world we live in.
Fighting unoriginality
Breaking the bad reality
Unbeknownst to me yet?
"Too young", they say, "to fret".
Well beyond the years that I am,
Far below the society I am in.

What For?
Danielle Brown Oct 2012
I’d call you
But what for?
We haven’t talked for this long
I’m sure a bruise wouldn’t conjure a couple of days more
But to settle the score
If any at all were taken
It’s been different without you
A different state and
My heart has been telling my body to find you
But my mind has been saying “I’m better without you”
It’s been a constant battle trying to keep you abay
But knowing I’ve been comforted by the fact
You haven’t fought for me to stay
All the more reasons
To keep trekking ahead
All the more reasons
To forget the words you once said
Spoken nothings hoisted through my memories
Nothing lost, nothing gained
But why do I still not feel free?
You’re not here, but you trap me in your ways
You didn’t acknowledge my existence
Even when I was in front of your face
But that’s all good
It’s fine, it’s okay
It was all in my head
All made up anyway

Foolish (2011)
Danielle Brown Dec 2012
I’ve always understood my place with you,
But I knew for a fact that truth couldn’t be true.
Running from reality,
And hiding in my dreams,
Life seems much easier,
When it’s not as it seems.
The farther I run,
The closer I get.
The times I remember,
Are the same times I should forget.
Oh! Look at what you’ve caused
This mess you have done.
You’ve tortured my heart,
And called it fun.
I can’t blame you;
Blame is all the same.
For it picks its victims,
And is tagged with one name:
Me,
You,
Us,
We,
Them.
Down to the depths of the oceans
Drifiting under the moon
No cares or cries
Just an ignorant fool.
I have understood theres no you
And theres no me,
And I’ve agreed to these terms
Only to be set free.

Questions (2011)
Danielle Brown Dec 2012
I wonder if you know what happens when the chasing stops and the games end?
Or when the time spent wasted was only wasted time spent?
Or if you’ll end up with the one who your heart truly desires?
Or be brave to tell yourself that your mind was the liar?
Oh, you won’t forget the great times you experienced while you chased?
And You wouldn’t redo a single action or repeat a single day?
You do understand that it all falls into place.
And whatever does happen,
well,
I guess you can blame fate.

Its just as different
If not all the same
Who ever said love is lost
Didn’t know love’s name
It’s easier said
Than it could possibly be done
Catching a glimpse from the light
Of the early dawn’s sun
Who are we to judge
What we don’t even know
Let those free of sin
Of course, cast the first stone
The faces of the unknown
Whom i long to meet
Have a little chat
Observe
Look
Wonder
Speak
Its all to easy
This life I dream
Its all to easy
Easier than it seems
So close to this place
Where we long to be
So far from freedom
That my heart needs to see
But before anything
All
And beyond
Its best to be wistful
With a mind of the young.
