Face turned down,
Back slumped.
Eyes flickering,
Mind turning.
Creating a universe.

Deviating from reality,
Escaping it.
Forming a life,
Living it.
Imagination active.

Working,
Playing.
Focused,
Dedicated.
Writing.
Scrap from 2018
Dan Houston Jan 2019
How can the world be happy when I am sad?
How can the world be sad when I am happy?
The world moves along regardless,
It does not disregard, yet it chugs on to its own beat.
Movement,
Motion,
An unstoppable passage of time.
Writhing,
Dancing,
Struggling,
Cuddling,
The world doesn’t have a motive,
But it walks anyway.
It doesn’t have a reason,
But it thinks anyway.
I am of the world,
But the world is not of me.
It doesn’t need to care,
But so much in it does care.
Where is the worth in what is worthless?
One’s man trash is another man’s treasure.
Because the world doesn’t care.
It doesn’t care if you’re scared,
It will keep moving.
You need to catch up.
It doesn’t stop, even though you are blindly flailing in the dark.
The world doesn’t leave you behind,
It carries you forward,
Whether you want to go or not.
You need to continue.
Because nothing will let you simply stop.
It keeps going.

Reaching out,
Without moving a muscle.
Wanting to shout,
Not a whisper.
Gears turning,
Behind the windows.
Mind churning,
Covered by a mask.
A smile emerges,
Disconnected.
My body urges,
There is no action.
I want to be close,
Trying to move.
I wish the most,
Holding back.
