Between the rides
I've journeyed on
I got lost
In a way between.

Between the two
Heartbeats
I've skipped
One.

Between the names
I've read through
On yours
I got stuck.

Tears running down our faces
Now they don't surprise us at all
We've known pain since forever
Surely we can suffer much more.

We find ourselves looking in the darkness
Scouting for flickers of light,
How can we drown out the sadness
When we're outnumbered for the fight?

And still I find myself drawn to you
Like North and South often do,
Solace is ever closer
Each time I reach for you.

And still I hold on to you
Like babies often do,
Life's that much easier
When home's spelt like you.

I've known rivers of gold
Speeding through fingers' touch,
Too brisk for them to latch
To minds that easily fold.

I've seen hearts beat sharp
For what they thought to be glimpses
Of a love that still firmly flickers
Too far for reason's grasp.

I've heard tales,
Too many now to cast;
Human nature's all the same
For love is gold and gold does not rust.

To be a piece of paper
Thrown at sea,
Crumpled—furiously
Unable to be.

To row against
Undaunted waves,
Tall as mountains,
Jagged as nails.

Oh, to wish
To greet the sand,
Just to meet
Some reader's hands.
