Deep in Song
Dale Birren Mar 2016
Notes flow through wind,
pleasant and slow.
Ears ring with sound,
Pleasant and bright.

Knife pierces the heart,
An emotional blow.
Rivers down my face,
Beautiful pain.

Play that sweet sound again,
Feel the burn.
Memories simmer between my lungs,
Distant yet close.

Melody flows through me,
Pulsing with joy.
Pounding into my soul,
Love and hate.
Glee and sorrow.
Bright future and no tomorrow.
Sound and silence.

The Perfect Fall Day
Dale Birren Oct 2014
You are the perfect fall day.
You are warm and sunny with a slight cool breeze.

But even on a perfect day,
The wind can pick up,
And send a little rain on the way.

So we put on some gear
And splash in he puddles
Making the most of a rainy day
And turning it into something great.

The Hubble Telescope's mirror has to be perfectly sculpted in order to view in order to view the universe the way it does.

You are that mirror to me
You've shown me so much
And taught me how to love
And how to be loved

yet you fit so perfectly inside my core
like we belong together

Love
Dale Birren Aug 2014
Love is a liquid
It changes shape
It forms whatever beholds it
Has no physical definition other than so
Heat it up too quick, it becomes a gas, thin in the atmosphere.
Freeze it, turns cold and hard, quite brittle and can chip away.
Perfect temperature and it will flow like a river.

Northern Lands
Dale Birren Jul 2014
Wind sweeps through the mountains
Cold as ice it blows
War between lords and heathens
During battle it snows

Trees sway in the winter winds
Armies stand at the ready
Preparing for battle
"HOLD IT STEADY!!"

Go Ahead
Dale Birren Jun 2014
Go ahead and break my will
I'm stronger at heart than you may know

Go ahead and break my flesh
My soul is nowhere near as fragile

Go ahead and test my might
For my hammer will come down onto thee

Flame, Dear Flame
Dale Birren Jun 2014
Flame, Dear Flame
So dull yet so bright
Guide my journey through the dark

Flame, Dear Flame
So frail, yet much alight
Guide my sight with your amber spark

You are the key that unlocks the instrument betwixt my ears.
You are my shepherd through the thorns of Evil's might.

Flame. Dear Flame
Dying, yet full of life
Keep me warm through the cold of night
