Does shiny hair really matter? Or painted nails?
Or glittering eyes? Or soft, soft skin?
Yes. For the initial rush, they have no match.
Undoubtedly we are familiar with the captivation, the dance.
The trouble is, there are only so many ephemeral rushes.
Until they become tired. No, not from the busy nights.
But then the freshness oozes forth and gushes like a river
The freshness, the capacity each has
to be a relief,
to sooth,
to put at peace.
There is nothing like it.
A college freshman, realizing what it all means.
It is a means to an appreciation. Yes, definitely from the busy nights.
The nights filled with getting to know someone
in the un-Biblical sense.
There is nothing quite like the yearning, the hunger.
The lust for understanding.
And let me tell you, there will be tiny lingering questions.
But they are not as important as the perpetual question:
How much did you love?

Ode to January
Clara Dec 2013
Oh, glistening Prince:
We are all so happy you have come (though we may not realize it).
We thank you for your million presents (though we have not opened them).
We know you seek to help us (though we may not want it).
Happy fault and blessed Barrenness,
embed a single snowflake in our hearts.
That we might always hold a dear token of
the transformative power of anguish and death.
Because you alway testify that with new life:
"My cup runneth over".

Did you know?
Clara Dec 2013
Deeper than most.
Simplest in the simpler respects.
Owner of a bright ocean,
Not knowing how to navigate.
Forever twirling & eager eyes searching
too, too fast
Perhaps Oneday I'll sit down
and become a coach's wife.

Fulfillment.
Clara Dec 2013
Because triumph is not a rush,
neither is defeat a feeling.
You must understand that
triumph is a decision,
and defeat is a complaint.
HALLELUJAH!
is the shout raised by our parched lips
as we drink from the cup of life.
You must forget that
being open is weak,
and to passionately care is folly.
Because triumph is not a rush,
neither is defeat a feeling.

It's a Funny Thing
Clara Dec 2013
It's a Funny Thing
the ebb and flow of our (cowardly) lives,
as if death is not waiting to drown us in eternal oblivion.
And yet...
Maybe we are wiser than we know,
for perhaps something (in the core) of our soul
knows
that death may be a brother, and
we truly shall live on,
one way or another.

Much
Clara Jan 2014
How much brighter is the beaming snow,
than thousands of ancient diamonds.
How much softer is a clement summer breeze,
than the finest velvet.
How much cleaner are the fresh ocean tears,
than the plastic-bottled liquid.
How much more pure is the kiss of the sun or the glow of a campfire,
than any meager artificial light.
and how much more valuable, by tons,
are the minuscule masses that combine to create a human being,
than any other masses on the earth...

To Where Do You Run?
Clara Dec 2013
To where do you run, my dear
when all is said and done.
To where do your manful thoughts roam,
Is it to your lions den of greed? Or the pleasant shoal of fun?
Or perhaps the tropical forest of mating?
Yes, love, this is where your hungers are calculating.
Ah, but there lies a dearest freshness in your sigh and pant,
which gives me glorious hope.
Hope, which has begun to look like the Promise Land.
As you fire questions at me more and more,
I have faith that you will see.
See my fire that burns for you,
and the fire that blazes in you for me.
Because when the curtains draw, my dear
It seems we are all hurtling toward the end.
I swear by then we shall have joined hands; there will be nothing left to fear.

Everything is as it should be.
We shouldn't be so startled when everything turns out right.
We shouldn't be so amazed that there is order;
why do we assume chaos?
Right is not our "right"
We blame outsiders for the real chaos inside us.
The actual organizing should be done in our minds.
We attack trust when it is really us who have misplaced it,
not in its rightful place.
We often like to forget that evil never conquers, as our childish books tell us.
The secret to peace is not to worry,
for all shall be set right by His hands.

The Battle-cry
Clara Jun 2014
What is it like to run into battle?
It is the rumble strip on the side of the highway, but it is also the cathedral cloud of incense that clings about the choir.
Who can tell me what its like to meet your ultimate end?
It is terror itself, but it is also Love.
Is it better to take or to give?*
Be Not Afraid.
