We store our love in silence
The hunched back kind.
The bent nail, loose *****, "how many years has it been?" "I stopped counting after our third glance." kind.
The kind that wears like store- bought distressed jeans. We were ready- made to mold against each other.
Our silence renders speechless.
Our love renders sympathy.
If only I had remembered exactly how long we were together.
Because weeks can feel like millennia if you let it.
We were so use to silence that the drums in our ears stopped beating. We were no longer listening for the other person's thoughts. But listening to know that nothing was greeting it.
We store our love in silence
We found it comforting.
How space could stretch like broken concrete between us. Yet sounded like nothing.
When you stopped calling, I thought nothing of it.
When we stopped holdings hands, the feeling of absence, was no where to be found.
A whirlwind romance dwindled to tight-lipped smiles and brief glances in passing by.
Make no mistake, this is no love story, only pretense.
We store our love in silence
It was safer that way.
So when contact finally broke like suspension cables, the bridge wouldn't come tumbling down.
So when hearts finally broke like suspension cables, I wouldn't come tumbling down.
We store our love in silence
And similar to sound of our own voices, it disappears without a trace.
